Swim
Comments: Headed out in the first wave and was concerned about staying on course. I was taking a breath every stroke and stayed on line with all the buoys and did not go off course once. My stroke didn't feel as smooth as I have flet in the pool lately. The water was extremely COLD. When I got out off the water I could not feel my feet and felt disorientated heading into T1. What would you do differently?: This was one area that I felt I had improved on alot the last few months in the pool. Obviously OWS is very different but I had high hopes heading into the race. There is nothing I can do about the water temp, like I said it was COLD. BRRRRRRRRR. Transition 1
Comments: My feet were numb that I had difficult time putting my shoes on. Other than that it was ok. What would you do differently?: bring a heater. Bike
Comments: For me the bike never goes to well. I was hoping to finish in about 43-45 minutes, It was a little over my goal time. It is what it is, I need to spend more time biking. Transition 2
Comments: The only problem I had was that when I unclipped my left foot was still numb and I couldn't feel it. Other than that it went well. Run
Comments: I had never done a trail run before. It was interesting. Coming out of T2 an I couldn't feel my left foot, I figure I could make up some lost time. There were about 5 people ahead of me I caught up to them and passed them. I had a good pace and passed about 5 more people. Then we headed into the woods. I kept my pace and paced three more people, I had on woman ahead of me who was moving so I stayed behind her, I probably could have passed her but I followed her lead through the trail. The last half mile took you back on the mainroad into the Webb Institute. What would you do differently?: I should have passed the woman in front of me and pushed the pace on the run.I was a little hestitant due to the trail running. Post race
Warm down: Had some gatorade, water and they put out a great spread of eggs, home fries and waffles. What limited your ability to perform faster: The COLD water and trail run which I was not used to. Event comments: Great race to start the season, they cap the entrants at 200 so it is nice. I really wasn't a fan of the trail run and cold water but I will probably do the race again next year. Got up at 4:00 am had a whole wheat bagel withpeanut butter, packed the car and drove over to the site.
Light 5 minute jog before putting the wetsuit on. Headed down to the water which was COLD. Slowly waded in to try and acclimate myself to the COLD water. After about 5 minutes I did a short swim out to the first buoy and back. My face felt numb but it wasn't getting any warmer.
