Got up at 3:30, ate PB and banana toast, drank some coffee. Rode to the race site with family and another participant.

Tried to start in front this time, but was too close to the left buoy. First time I've started in the front so lots of kicking and not much room to begin with. Could not see the first buoy until I was at it. After the first turn, everything smoothed out and the swim went well from there.

It's tough being in the middle of everything. My bike pedal hit a woman's foot as she was putting her shoes on so I stopped to make sure she was OK. Other than that, I don't know how I could have cut my time here.

Paced myself in the first two miles then turned it on at the first turn. I tried to push myself up all the hills. The only difficulties were the hill in the neighborhood: Lots of bikers all over the road so it was hard to pass people and not cross into the left lane. Also, towards the end, I passed a police officer on a motorcycle and other car traffic slowed me down a bit.
