Swim
Comments: This was my first "real" triathlon, non-reverse and OWS, so all in all went pretty well. My heat was with the elites so I knew I wanted to be toward the middle instead of getting run over. Only problem was that I got hit first few meters and my right google filled with water the whole time! Oh well live and learn. What would you do differently?: Not much, felt like I did ok for being a newbie. Try maybe to take time to fix google??? Maybe... Transition 1
Comments: Since this was my first wetsuit race I def have some lessons learned as far as quickness in/out of transition. Was just a bit slow, and dizzy from first OWS swim and run. However, I cannot complain too bad. Thought I would try to put on arm warmers for the bike, but arms too wet to really make it work. Had the best jump onto bike and getting into my shoes that I have had. What would you do differently?: Once I get a few more races under my belt I think I will have a better, read quicker routine Bike
Comments: Had one of my best bike legs in a race to date. I am very lucky to work at a bike shop where one of my co-workers is a pro bike racer that let me borrow his Zipp 808 Tubulars! If you don't think that race wheels make a difference I am here to tell you that you have no idea! Simply awesome, and I didn't feel like I was working that hard to maintain speed and cadence. What would you do differently?: Not much, had a fun time but I was pretty cold. My toes were totally numb by the time I got off the bike and impacted my first half of the run. Maybe throw some toe covers on my shoes for the bike portion. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of my shoes a little earlier then I have in the past. Good idea, except that my feet were numb so I couldn't quite get my feet on top of shoes as easily as I have in the past. Def, lost a bit of time there. What would you do differently?: My feet were just so freakin cold that I had a tough time running out of transition and into my run. It's like I couldn't tell my body what to do correctly. As always live and learn Run
Comments: I had a real tough time out of transition and into my run, because of my numb toes! I also expirenced cramping in my stomach and calves for the first time. I think it was just because of the cold. I did something I have never done in a race before and actually took a gatorade at the aid station and stopped!!!!! I took a big gulp and took off up the hill. By the time I reached the top I felt a ton better, what a difference a little simple sugar makes! I came down took a water and took off on my run, finally I felt like I could run like Im used to. Finished strong What would you do differently?: Just keep up on my brick workouts to make the first bit of the run a bit better. I def negative split the run and could have had a much better time if it were not for my poor first half. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Crossed the finish line and some Orange County TRI DIVAS I recognized from the shop were volunteering and gave me a water. Simply awesome club and Martha does so much for the sport through encouraging new women triathletes and through all the members volunteering. All you ladies that are looking for a tri club you can't do any better then the TRI DIVAS!! My girlfriend and I stayed by the finish and cheered on a bunch of finishers and then made our way over to post race to check results. What limited your ability to perform faster: This being my first real triathlon I guess I can't be too upset with my time. However, there are definite areas of improvement in all three legs and transitions. Just keep up with my training and get ready for the Moore's San Diego Spring Sprint. Event comments: Great, fun race, would love to do again if its not the same weekend of Desert international next year! Last updated: 2007-12-29 12:00 AM

Packed everything the night before, and since I live just down the street didn't have to wake up too too early for this one. Got up at 4am, Had a bowl of Kashi and a Cliff Bar and loaded the car. Had VIP option which was cool, had a great transition area and set everything up.
Put on my wetsuit and went for a warm-up swim, everything went great. Had a REDBULL about 25mins before race. Tried something new, I know nothing new on race day, but since I don't drink caffiene at all that it might give me a boost...it did!
