Swim
Comments: I'm not sure what went wrong here. It just didn't feel right. The suit did pretty well; maybe a tad loose, but not horrible. I got tired about 3 minutes in and couldn't get clear water at all. Lord, save me from the back stroke and breast stroke swimmers! And why do people insist on crawling up my left shoulder? Anyway, it wasn't the best swim I've ever had. What would you do differently?: Not sure. I have been neglecting my swimming lately. Definitly need to get in the lake more. Transition 1
Comments: That's about usual for me. The suit makes for a longer T1. What would you do differently?: Hurry up a little more. I did dry off, put on shoes and a jacket. Still, pretty slow. Bike
Comments: I was grinding up the little rollers into a headwind going about 8mph. Then the crosswinds after the turn. A few times I felt like I was going to be blown over. There were about 4 sweet tailwind miles, but the rest was brutal. Even though my speed was just above snail level, I felt good about the bike. It was tough, but I did it. What would you do differently?: No idea. Maybe not wuss out and ride on those windy days just to get used to it. Or just suffer. Transition 2
Comments: Better this time. I forgot to take off my jacket and had to go back. Not too bad. What would you do differently?: Think it through ahead of time. Run
Comments: Oh jesus! WTF was wrong with my knee. About 1/2 mile in, my R knee started hurting. I struggled on to the 1 mile marker and walked a bit. Of course, my feet were still frozen and I was feeling that bike effort. I started running again and more knee pain. I hobbled along for the rest of the 4.2. What would you do differently?: I'm so disappointed in this run. Last week I ran 4 in 42min. Today, 4.2 in 47. I called the doc and got an appt for Thurs to figure out what's going on with my knee. This is the same knee that hurt in the du. Post race
Warm down: Ate a couple bananas and chatted. Not much warm down needed when I walked most of the run. What limited your ability to perform faster: Everything. Cold water, wind, bum knee. Lots of excuses. Mostly, my lack of focus lately was a huge factor. Several times, I was just wandering along without a plan. Or I made up my "plan" on the fly. Not my smartest race. Event comments: I like the courses at this race and that it's so close. The weather is a unknown, but in all it was OK. I'll probably do it again next year. Last updated: 2007-12-31 12:00 AM

I went into this one terribly unfocused and unprepared. Life has gotten in the way of training lately. I was nervous about being able to finish, esp on the run. I could make more excuses, but I won't. We left home in plenty of time and got to the venue early enough so I could pick a transition spot in the back. I was going to eat a Clif before warm-up, but I didn't. That would have been a good idea.
Probably not enough. I took the bike out for a couple miles. Then I ran to the park exit and back. Swam a bit, mostly to get used to the cold water. I think I saw a pengiun out there. Nah, too cold for those guys.
