Pre-race routine:

I went by myself to pick-up my package (bid number for the bike/helmet/belt) at MACK CYCLE early in the morning on Saturday, my significant other couldn't race this one (working in the Outage (Turkey Point - FPL).
I got the Bid # 9 Damn!!! I wanted the # 2 (my favorite number)...next time I go a little early and maybe I can get it. Went back home...and...washed/lubed/tuned bike...prepared/packed all my stuff and beverages for the race . Early dinner with my SO at 7pm...and...went to sleep at 9 pm where I have been doing Pet-Sitter during 10 days (3 indoors dogs) at the house of a couple of friends on mine.
Woke-up at 3:55 am...took out the dogs while I was taking breakfast: OJ and a small bowl of macaroni&cheese...and...my usual Soy Protein Shake (chocolate) with my usual pack of multi-vitamins/minerals, Amino1500, Glucosamine and Q-10. A girlfriend of mine that raced with me came to pick-up me at 4:30 am...We got at Crandon Park at 5:27 am...Placed my bike in the rack and my stuff next to it. Got body-marked and my ship...and...started to prepare all my stuff, helmet over the seat and my sunglasses over my helmet. My biking/running shoes, my fuelbealt with the bid number, a bottle of frozen water and my camelback under the bike in the grass. My AeroBottle (AminoVital/water) and a hammer gel in the bracket in my AeroBars. When all my stuff were ready and placed..I sat down over my cooler...in calm/relaxed...took an Hammer Gel with Accelerade. Then I took my wet-suit...Yes!!! it was allowed for this race...googles/wax ear-plugs/blue cap (finally other color, I hate the pink one) with a bottle of water and other Hammer gel...and...headed to the beach...when I got in a picnic area...I put my wet-suit till my hips...and...ran till the Swimming Start area...there I took the 2nd Hammer Gel with water...
Event warmup:

At 6:20 I started to stretch my legs and arms, and jumped into the water...the water was a little chilly...maybe in between 76o and 78oF...but...I had my wet-suit...man!!! the ocean was very choppy with waves and currents...I have never seen this beach in those conditions...it's usually very flat and calm...Also, it was very windy...strong winds coming from SE...maybe at 15 to 20 mph.
The 1st wave started in time at 6:30 and mine was the 3rd one (all women) at 6:40 am...I don't like when they put all the women together...We were 121 women..it's crazy...!!!

Comments:

I had a good start even all the circunstances (121 women at the same time/condition of the ocean)...I started in the left side of the peloton...to avoid all the women in the middle...swimming in a good pace...never stopped...when I got in the yellow bouy where the Sprint had to do the U-turn...I noticed that I was completly alone...nobody around me...a small group in front of me...but not to close...and the second group was behind me...I was the only in the middle of the pack...I felt very confident...even the conditions of the ocean...I think many of the women were a little freaked-out...but...every time that I tryed to see where was the last bouy for the U-turn...the waves hit my face...it's was tough!!!
Finally, when I was approching to the last bouy I noticed that I reached the first pack of women and guys from the 2nd wave...and...I felt better...and continue with my rythm of swim till the exit...because...I knew I was doing grreat!!!
I don't know my Overall Rank in the swimming...the information posted in the web-site is wrong...
What would you do differently?:

Continue with my training...swim and swim...long distances...I'm getting better and better.
Transition 1

Comments:

When I got out of the water...I felt great...I was not tired...and I started to run as fast as possible and at the same time removing my uper-body wet-suit till my hip, then my cap, googles and wax ear-plugs and put them inside the cap...When I was running I passed a lot of women and guys from other waves...when I got inside the transition area in my assigned rack the 1st one next to the bike exit...the first thing that I took was my sunglasses and bucklet my helmet...removing at the same time my wet-suit without problem..put my biking shoes..took/bucklet my camelback...took my bike running out the transition area till the mount bike area...and...jumped on my bike like usual...
What would you do differently?:

train and train...I'm usually one of the fastest in my Age Group...this time I was 4th...but I think that I did great even I was using wet-suit.

Comments:

I did Ok...I could do it better...but...I was trying not to burn all my energy in the bike...I know that my strong discipline is the run...
The bike course was great...even all the challenges: winds coming from SE maybe at 15 to 20 mph (headwinds/crooswinds) + to climb 4 times the Rickenbacker Causeway (huge and high bridge) and in one occasion my chain came out when I was climbing the bridge in my second time, it was my fault...I know that I did wrong when I changed my shifts...that's Ok...it won't happen again.
During the bike course...I stayed very well hydrated in beetween my AeroBottle with AminoVital and water in my camelback.
Fianlly, after the 2 laps in the bike course...and approching to the transition area...when I got in the desmount bike area...I desmounted my bike like usual, like the Pro/Elite but keeping my feet on shoes...passing my right leg over the seat to the left side next to my left leg...while the left foot was still clipped...and gradually with the breaks stoped the bike and unclipped my left foot...jumping and running to the transtition area...
What would you do differently?:

Train and train...I know that I have improved a lot in the bike...
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

I did it great...even...I was the 3rd one fastest in my Age Group.
When I racked my bike...the first thing that I did was to change my shoes very fast like usual and removed helmet and camelback at the same time...took my hat/fuelbealt with my bid number and bottle water and ran out the transition area and at the same time buckling my fuelbelt...
What would you do differently?:

train and train...

Comments:

When I got out from the transition area...with my fuelbealt already buckled, hat over my head...and bottle of water in my right hand...I started to run with a good pace till I got comfortable...I decided to take 2 capsules of Endurolytes from my fuelbelt with water...and then I tossed the rest of the cold water over my head...brrrr!!! it was cold!!! and it was like an electro-shock...Wake-up!!!...and it was when I started to run a little more harder...not too much!!! I said to me..."remember is 6 miles...save your energy but keep a good pace..."
In general was a really good run...I keep my pace like usual...I reached and passed many people that passed me in the bike course...but...for that I always say to me..."Don't Worry Be Happy!!! Do the best that you can do and enjoy the bike ride...You will re-finish in the run...that's your strong discipline". I reached and passed my 2 best girlfriends that usually are the fastets in the bike in our Age Group...just when I passed them...I knew that I was in the top 5 in our Age Group and I started to push more and more...and...when I saw from far the sign of the mile 6...I sprinted the fast that I could...like a cheeta till the Finish Line.
What would you do differently?:

Continue with my trainings...I know that I'm doing great!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Just when I passed the Finish Line...and the volunteers gave me the bottle of water and my Finisher Medal...I did drink 1/2 half water and the rest tossed over my head...then walked and walked till I felt recovered and waited for my 2 girlfriends.

Event comments:

I don't know what happened with the swimming times when the Results were posted...but...the times were wrong.
We had to wait too long for the Award Ceremony...till the Organizers fixed the problems...We had to leave before they started the Award...I couldn't get my award...my girlfriend needed to be at the airport at 3 pm.
