Pre-race routine:

Took the metro down early with some friends. I ate a Clif bar, but my stomach was flip-flopping up until the start (made 2 trips to the port-a-potty and glad I didn't actually throw up).
Event warmup:

Since it was wet and cold, I kept my pants and jacket on until I had to go check my bag. Stood around with friends until then.

Comments:

Considering I'd been sick for a week and a half prior, I took it pretty slow. The rain held off until about mile 6, but I was warm, so I didn't notice. I kept a nice even pace and made sure I didn't go out too fast. Passed my friend Alison on the course and was able to cheer her on at all the turn-around points. Actually, throughout, I was able to pass people. It was really crowded the first couple of miles though, which was annoying. Up until mile 7, I was going along nicely. I could feel myself getting tired before mile 8 - the last 2 miles were over a bridge, around a traffic circle and back over the bridge, but I forced myself to keep running. Stepped in a huge puddle at mile 9 and by then my quads were starting to get REALLY tired - but I kept pushing, albeit at a bit slower pace up until the last half a mile. I actually only stopped to walk once when I got water at mile 6, because I can't run and drink out of a cup! But I walked for maybe a minute tops.

What would you do differently?:

Not have been sick :( If I hadn't missed the last few training runs, I probably would have been great to the end. So I give myself a "good" rating, seeing as how at least I made my "post-sickness" goal time.
Post race
Warm down:

Was glad to stop running when I crossed the finish line :) Found water, and was cold at that point since I was wet and not moving anymore. Found friends and headed back to the metro - where the "down" escalators were broken...awesome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The fact that I'd had some sort of flu only a weekend before and had missed the last few training runs.

Event comments:

Lots of volunteers on the course just cheering the runners on. Mile markers and clocks at every mile was helpful and plenty of water stops.
