Pre-race routine:

Up 7:30 toast and water. 4-advil. COFFEE. Ken picked me up at 8:50. Drove 30 minutes to race. Got one of the last parking spots anywhere close. Registered and tried to figure out what to wear. Decided on tech long sleeve and short sleeve BT shirt over that and bike wind breaker.
Event warmup:

Jogged a little with Ken and walked a 1/4 mile to start. Stretched a little.

Comments:

Started out with Ken and Rob, for about a 1/4 miles. Wanted to keep it at a 9:30 mile or less. I was warned to save some for the end. Congestion cleared soon. It was flat for the first 3/4 miles. Then a small hill. Hit the first mile at 9:15. Alright I can do this. Legs were feeeling good. After turning the second corner the hills started. Not much flat. Slogged the uphills and pushed the downhills. Had brought a 8oz bottle of water. There is not course support in this series. Was pushing along well. Had a good pacer up in front of me. Yes race booty. All the hills till the killer. It started gradual and increased in grade. Ran the lower half then when I couldn't catch the walker in front of me. I walked the rest of the hill. It was a good decision. At top it was level and had to push mentally to get back into my pace. For the most park it was downhill to the finish. One big downhill that helped my time. My pacer had stayed in front of me. At about 5.5 miles I came up on her. Told her we neednt ot push it to make it in under an hour. She picked up the pace but didn't stay up. Pushed the lower flat coming in. Couldn't see the time at the finish until the last corner. When i could finally focus It rread 1:00:05. Dam didn't make it. Thought oh back off but what the hell you are in a race finish it hard, push hard to finish well for me. happy with time even though I had to drink a V8.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little extra on level spots.
Let go even more on the downhills.
Lose some more wieght, I can feel the extra I'm pulling up hill. It's coming off slowly.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much walked back to the truck to my V8, about a 1/4 mile. Stretched a little. Got pictures of the drinking. Not much in the way of food. Decided to head to out to get bagels with KEn, Mike and Rob. Jackie had to go to the kid's hockey game. Had a nice time hanging for a little bit. Thanks for driving Ken.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight.

Event comments:

I am very satified with this race. I didn't miss my goal by much and not much at all considering the course itself. I'm glad Mike and I decided to do this series. It's been great training so far and has helped me on my January Challenge. Four races down two to go.
