Swim
Comments: We swam in the Potomac River. It was pretty gross. There was some long sea grass that my arms would get tangled in. I am pretty pleased with my swim time though. I think i just wanted out of the water..so i swam fast. Transition 1
Comments: There was a long run from the water to T1 Bike
Comments: Ugh, this is where things started going down hill (or up hill rather..as there seemed to be a lot of those, which I was not prepared for). I just couldn't get myself moving. I felt heavy and slow, and couldn't get into the groove. My stomach also started to act up, gurgling and calling me names. I'm pretty good at attacking hills, but I just couldn't do it today. It was frustrating. What would you do differently?: Get in some more hill work outs. Transition 2
Comments: My husband came running over to the side of the transition area and yelled "are you ok?" to me. I said "yeah I guess". Later he told me that I looked pretty sick when I came in on the bike. Run
Comments: Behold! the slowest 10K i have ever run, ever in my 17 years of running. I was doing well until mile 3 and my stomach just rebelled. I walked/jogged back the rest of the run, hobbled over. it sucked What would you do differently?: I don't know...i thought I had the whole salt/nutrition thing worked out. Maybe that played a part? Maybe i was just having a crap day? Post race
Warm down: Stood under the misting tent, drank some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I am not sure what my issue was with this race. I think it was a combo of things. 1) Going into the race I was worried that I was under prepared. I reassured myself i'd be fine, because my first triathlon ever was an Olympic distance, and all I did was run train for that. 2)There were hills (i guess this falls under #1). I haven't been spending as much time cycling on hills as I have in the past. 3) I hadn't been feeling well all week. Sluggish and achey. 4)It was dang hot out. Event comments: Despite my crap day, I liked this race. The course was quite challenging...a lot hillier than I'd anticipated. The post race festivities were some of the best I've seen in a while. BBQ, and Kool Aid - reminded me of family picnics when I was a kid. Last updated: 2008-01-04 12:00 AM

Woke up, had a pb&j and some gatorade, did some last-minute straightening up (we had spent the day before getting our house ready for an open house), loaded up the car, and drove to the race site
My stomach was killing me...so i spent a good portion of the time in the porta pot line. At one point a guy walked by in a swim cap eating a breakfast burrito, as if he was mocking my gastric distress.
Swam out to the first buoy and back, stretched.
