Pre-race routine:

Nothing much. Stayed in one of the local cheap motels. Had cream of wheat and cheese and coffee for breakfast.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 18m 21s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the first time I had ever worn my wetsuit in the water and I felt like I was choking the entire time. I hated it.

What would you do differently?:

I'd either have practiced OW swimming with the wetsuit or not swim with the wetsuit at all. Last minute changes weren't good.
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

I had no experience with taking off a wet wetsuit, so I was kind of at a loss. I should have practiced this ahead of time.
What would you do differently?:

Practice!
Bike
  • 55m 45s
  • 14 miles
  • 15.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I was still using my road bike for this one so I was just wearing my running shoes. My bike is pretty slow, so that's definitely a big factor. I also didn't get much in the saddle practice at all.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike...which I have done!
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

I didn't have my tri bike then so I was just keeping the same shoes on which made for a fast transition
Run
  • 32m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I definitely felt very strong for this portion of the event.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of open water practice, wet suit decision, and poor bike equipment

Event comments:

Great race, lots of fun! Bib # 657
