Pre-race routine:

Don't really have one. Dropped off my bike and running gear at the two differnet transistion spots. Went back and picked up my wife and she dropped me off at the swim area and I did a lot of stretching.
Event warmup:

Did a small swim.
Swim
  • 17m 36s
  • 437 yards
  • 04m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was tough since we didn't know exactly when the gun would go off and the current was so strong. So I waited as long as I dared and then did a small quick warm up and it was like swimming in endless pool! I was swiming agaisnt the current and making no headway. Finally I came back to the shore and someone tapped me on the head and said they just gave us the 1 minute warning. So as I was swimming out to where everyone was the race started and I never got in the main part of the current or the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

GET IN THE CURRENT!

Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

This was a pretty good transistion except for one thing....I forgot to put my timing chip back on! I had to take it off in order to get my wetsuit off and it never back on until I came back from the bike. Duh!

Comments:

Oh, the other thing I forgot at the transistion was my camelback. I don't have a water cage on the bike and always use the camelback but I forgot that as well as my timing chip. duh duh!

Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I don't have biking shoes so my running shoes are my biking shoes so no transistion was needed.
What would you do differently?:

This tran was okay.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

pretty good run. Unfortunitly there was a parade going on during the run so we had some doging to do on the sides walks. Pretty good race but that's one thing they should fix.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't really do anything and I know I need to. I had a funny thing happen to me. After I finished I went over to where some friends were waiting and I had grabbed some water and while I was standing there all of a sudden I couldn't catch my breath. I don't know what that is but it scares me. I think I need to do a better warm down instead of just stopping.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too many mistakes #1.
#2, probably need to be in better shape. It was the best swim I've ever done but the bike and run I know could be better.

Event comments:

The race is in a good area and after the race we toured some winerys and that was great.

I don't know the bike because I had left the timing chip at the 1st transistion.
Wind: Little
Course: pretty flat. Couple of hils towards the turn around. I had problems about 1 mile into the race. Something started rubbing on my front tire and since the last race I did my tire popped I didn't want that to happen again so I stopped and checked things out. Couldn't figure out what was going on so I started going. But it kept rubbing so I stopped again and lossened the tire and try to move it away from the top of the fork since it appeard to be rubbing there. I even let some air out of the tire because I thought I had over filled it. Turns out it was a clod of dirt that fell out just after the turn around. AAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!
