Swim
Comments: Very happy with my swim. I still managed a good pace, even though I had to pass 7 people during the swim. I had to do one open turn when the guy I was passing blocked the lane from me doing a flip turn and I had to go back the 3 yards or so to actually touch the wall so I wouldn't be dq'd. I remember pacing myself off a girl that happened to be one lane over heading in the same direction. She had the 2nd fastest time so she was a good person to pace What would you do differently?: Nothing. Punch people in the face who lied about their times ;) Just kiding of course. :) Transition 1
Comments: Hmmm.. Not sure if this is my real transition time or not. Setup didn't turn on the timing mat between T1 and the bike until partially through the bike so I was "assigned" a time of 1:00. I remember splitting under 35:00 on the bike from my watch so that left 1:50 for my transition. The actual transition was ok, but a bit longer because I had to remove the wetsuit and I did put my shoes on in transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Good bike for me. But I was concerned, turned out that my legs were pretty dead, and were hurting nice and bad from the first mile. Usually in a sprint or oly my "longs" hurt but the legs are ok. This was really weird. Nevertheless, I passed a bunch and only was passed by about 5 or so guys (including Ernie).. So the rest of the bike my goal was to keep Ernie within site, and I was successful. Caught up to Ally by the end but otherwise I didn't see any other BTers. I didn't put the bike ranks because who knows where people actually finished. And the 4 top times were from women who skipped one or TWO loops :) What would you do differently?: Running Speedwork less than 3 days prior may have hindered my legs. BUT, it was not an A race so I was willing to train through. Transition 2
Comments: Not a very good T2.. Spent about 10-15 seconds fixing the beautiful Litespeed next to me that I knocked off the bar. It didn't fall on the ground, but I was worried it would so I spent time fixing it. Grr.. 13 seconds would have moved me up 3 places in the women. What would you do differently?: Don't worry about other peoples gear. Run
Comments: Not a good run for me. I had no legs from the beginning. Coming up a couple of the first two hills within the first mile I was throwing up in my mouth and thinking about what would happen if the ambulance had to come get me on the side of the road if I fainted. It really sucked. I walked up the third big hill to try and regroup and it sort of worked. The rest of the run I just tried to keep it together. Luckily no women passed me (Ally re-passed me in T2). My legs were just never there.. I kept thinking they were going to buckle from underneath. Oh well. What would you do differently?: If this was an A race I would have tapered and not done speedwork 3 days prior. Not sure why else it has sucked so bad. Maybe need more bricks.. Though my first two sprints this season I had no problems making me think I needed more bricks. Post race
Warm down: Crappy post-race food, awards ceremony, Silver diner :), then a nice and easy 20 mile ride on the trail - which was great for the legs - they felt 100x better :) What limited your ability to perform faster: All of the above :) Event comments: Setup dropped the ball in this race. Nothing major, lots of minor problems. Lack of awards for the youngest AG, bad post race food, not turning on all the timing mats, and clearing out the aid stations before the last finisher was complete. Last updated: 2008-01-11 12:00 AM

It is awesome living 1.5 miles from the race site. Got up at 5:20 (for a 7:00 start), had some breakfast, and threw my transition bag on my back and rode my bike to the race site at Lake Newport Pool.
Biking over to the site. And 100 meters or so before the race start in the pool.
