Run
Comments: For the first 3 miles, it was VERY congested and Doug and I were bobbing and weaving around people. That continued for the rest of the race, but got a little easier. I was afraid I was going out too hard, but I felt good so kept going based on feel. As we were coming back on Haines Pt, it started raining and I was glad I kept the long sleeved shirt on. We ran past the Jefferson Memorial and the tidal basin/cherry blossoms which was cool before doing a short out and back on Rock Creek Parkway. (Took GU at mile 6). The course from 2 years ago was mostly all on the parkway which I hated as it was a sloping road which was hard on the joints. We powered up the slope and crossed the bridge. Doug and I weren't doing a whole lot of talking as I was pushing my comfortable pace and Doug was feeling his knee injury. It also started raining pretty hard at this point. We hit mile 9 and I could feel I had some kick left in me. Doug picked up the pace a bit and I managed to hang on. We passed the "1200 meters left" sign, followed by "800 meters" and "400 meters". I finally couldn't hang w/ Doug and with less than a quarter mile left, we ran solo to the finish. What would you do differently?: Nothing at all. I felt like I left everything out there. When I did this race 2 years ago, I ran around a 1:59. Ended up knocking :23 minutes off for a new 10 mile PR! Definately liked running w/ Doug. While we didn't talk that much, the miles seemed to fly by and I know I pushed it harder b/c I was running with someone. Post race
Warm down: It was raining and cold so no real warm down. We found Brad and Scott at the end of the mile long finishing chute. Doug and I grabbed our bags, said hello to a co-worker and then the 4 of us metroed to meet the rest of the BT crew for breakfast. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Event comments: Very happy w/ this race, both my performance and the race in general. Pros: New course from last year Could metro to start Bag check was organized Lots of volunteers Cons: Packet pick up a little bit of a pain to get to Race shirt is awful (not that I really care, but it's definately not good) Some of the port-o-potties were actually pad locked (WTF?!) Was really congested, but that's what you get with so many runners...maybe they should increase the time in between waves?! Last updated: 2008-01-11 12:00 AM

Up at 5:45am and drank coffee and ate a blueberry bagel as I got ready. Doug ran a little late as we were planning on leaving at 6:20. Ended up leaving around 6:30 to drive to Vienna metro.
A train was leaving the station as we were walking up so we waited for the next train. It came and we sat there waiting for it to go for over 10 minutes. At that point, we knew we'd be cutting it close as we had 14 stops to go.
Arrived at Smithsonian stop and Brad went ahead of Doug and I as he was in an earlier wave. Doug and I found the bag check and a bunch of port-o-potties with no line! I couldn't believe it! Took a GU right after port-o-potties.
We found Ron and Lea and then they called my wave to move forward. Doug is nursing an injury and decided to run w/ me. We weaved up through the masses and before we knew it, we were off!
