Swim
Comments: Chatted with Shelly as we treaded water. The "gun" went off and I felt good and strong for the first few hundred meters. I was able to draft off of a few people before the wave broke up. As the swim went on and people got more spread out, I found myself pretty much solo so no drafting. Went under the bridge which was freaky and cool at the same time. Had to clear goggles as they were super foggy. I also didn't realize we had a dog leg turn to get to the swim finish. Hit the ramp and made my way out. Time includes about a 30 second run to timing mat. What would you do differently?: Look at the course before hand. Not a huge deal, but it would have been good to know. Transition 1
Comments: Heard Sissy yelling for me as I came out of the swim. Once I got in the TA, I realized she was right near my bike! Good surprise. Had very minor issues getting the wetsuit off, but nothing big. I had to pee so in my usual fashion, did so in TA. Helmet and sunglasses on along with socks and shoes (after peeing) and I was off. What would you do differently?: Hustle more. Bike
Comments: Had to get bike down the curb before mounting. I was able to spin up all of the hills. As with everyone else, there was a lot of people on the course...especially my first lap. There were people that looked unsafe on the bike and others that were passing on my right (and I wasn't riding in the middle of the road). Kept pace comfortable while pushing it to see what I could do. Tim passed me around my mile 4.5. Brad finally caught me around my mile 11 and I got a nice ass smack as he went by. Rinse, repeat for lap 2 with the exception of the ass smack. Only drank water and had 2 GU's (one per loop). Course was interesting and fun despite the mass amounts of people. There was sometimes a headwind, but nothing awful. What would you do differently?: Not drink as much...I had to pee (again)!!! Transition 2
Comments: Dear god...a T2 time slower than T1!!! That's because I peed again. For those of you reading this rolling your eyes or saying "gross"...whatever. You'd do the same. ;) I've been having foot problems so I went with non-speed laces. Probably cost me a little time. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much on the bike that I had to pee again. Run
Comments: Run started on grass. Boo. Saw Karen's friend, Adrienne, almost immediately. Also saw Steve from former-local tri shop. Felt pretty good, but was getting warm. Kept dumping water over my head. Passed Steve Teufel as I was heading out and he was coming back from the 1 mile OAB. Good to see people you know out on the course. Came back to TA for the 2nd OAB...still feeling good. Saw Shelly around my mile 4.5 and she looked strong. Started to feel hungry so I took a 1/2 GU. I thought I could break 3 hours, but didn't want to get my hopes up if it didn't happen. Hit mile 5 still feeling good and knew I could push it to the end to break 3. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Great run off of the bike for me. Post race
Warm down: Dumped water over my head and found our crew. Packed up TA, rode to car and then had a cookout at Rachel's place. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure. I'm really happy with all of my times (except for my T1 and T2). Took 35+ minutes off of my last oly time. Event comments: Great race I hope to do again!! Last updated: 2008-01-11 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00am. Had coffee and bagel w/ butter for breakfast. We loaded the car and were on our way by 5:00 am. Parked about a mile or so from the transition area. Rode our bikes down, got body marked and set up TA.
No real warm up. Hit the port-o-potties on the TA side and chatted with everyone before getting onto the bus and riding to the swim start.
Since my wave was at 7:35am, I hit the port-o-potties one last time and watched the waves go off. Shelly found me before our wave hit the dock so we hung out for a few before the swim.
