Swim
Comments: at packet pickup on Saturday the water temperature was posted as 76F and they were expecting the race to be wetsuit legal. Unfortunately, this morning the official temp turned out to be 78.8 so I went without the suit. The first few 100 meters were brutal: lots of bumping, grinding, and swimming onto each other. I started to panic that I'd never find clear water. Finally found my stroke and just worked at sighting and getting through. Occasional bumping the whole way. Long run from beach back to TA and the timing mat. I was out of the water some where around 20-21 minutes. Slow, but everyone was complaining about slow times so we're thinking that the course was longer than advertised. What would you do differently?: it was a good, solid FOMOP swim (good for me) but there's always room for me to swim faster! Transition 1
Comments: the long run from water to TA was included in the swim time so I'm not really sure what took me so long here. Slightly long run out to the mat and mount line so maybe that's much of it. 4th in AG and 38/178F, not bad What would you do differently?: it was a decent T1 but there's room for improvement Bike
Comments: the course featured unrelenting rolling hills. I heard lots of complaining about the difficulty of the course but I didn't think it was bad at all. I passed many more than passed me; only passed by 2 women. A good ride! What would you do differently?: it would have been nice to have had a chance to ride the route before the race. We drove it yesterday so I had a good idea of what to expect which helped a lot. Transition 2
Comments: 4th in AG, 46/178F What would you do differently?: less time dealing with the Garmin Run
Comments: a great run: a PB for a triathlon 5k Post race
Warm down: lots of walking What limited your ability to perform faster: swim longer than advertised and long run from beach to TA Event comments: no pre-race food; some info, including wave start times, was not well disseminated. I liked the course and venue so will definitely consider doing this again next year. Maybe the OLY? Last updated: 2008-01-13 12:00 AM

didn't get into bed until after the men's Olympic 4x100 medley final and then couldn't fall asleep; up at 4:30am; felt like I didn't get any sleep at all. B'fast of Cheerios and yogurt smoothie. One Accel gel around 6:30 and a second around 7:15. Took my time setting up transition, talking to the other ladies. I was third onto my rack row so I missed getting the end spot but had the second spot in facing out.
some walking, some talking. no pre-race food available!
