Swim
Comments: pool lap swim, down and back in same lane, then under the rope to next lane x5, there were people in the lanes that were misplaced (could not swim the 100m time they submitted) and that held up the group and caused some problems Also there was a long run from the pool to cross the time line into the transition area so that added time to the overall swim time What would you do differently?: improve my swim to attempt to get in a faster group, it seemed like there were a lot of novices that didn't really swim their swim times Transition 1
Comments: had to run through the grass to get to the road and start, it was difficult to move quickly while carrying the bike and trying to run in road bike shoes What would you do differently?: lay out a towel for me to stand on at the Transition site Bike
Comments: felt bad for the vast number of people who were riding mountain bikes and didn't even have road tires. That must have been challenging on the hills Ate a gel about 2 miles before the end of the bike section - good idea! What would you do differently?: push harder on the flat areas. Replace water with Cytomax. It was not hot and I think the Cytomax would help better than water. Transition 2
Comments: took a while to re-rack my bike and get my running shoes on. Didn't run out of the transistion area to the start of the run - I was tired and not looking forward to running (my hardest part) I sat down to put my running shoes on What would you do differently?: run out of the T station, improve on getting my running shoes on. Possibly try bungee laces that do not require tying. I need to practice this transition to involve covering distance while carrying my bike and figuring out how to move in those shoes! Run
Comments: run faster! What would you do differently?: run the whole time. Learn how to run. Feed more off the energy of the crowd. Post race
Warm down: drank water and ate a banana. Wrapped up in a sweatshirt and cheered in other racers. They had an announcer reading off your name as you passed him - that was cool! What limited your ability to perform faster: aerobic conditioning and ability to run Event comments: very friendly atmosphere, a woman’s only event is not competitive, rather it is very supportive and encouraging. I was encouraged by fellow racers all throughout the race. It was nice to see young girls competing. I had a great time and it was a super introduction to triathlons. I will compete in this race again next year as well as some more challenging distances. My daughter wants to compete in this race as soon as she is old enough. What better endorsement can you get! this was my first race so I didn't have a "routine." I set up my station as best as I could. Someone else who racked their bike on the same row as mine tied a Happy Face Balloon on the bike rack as a marker. Mental Note, good idea, be sure to do that for all races. Then I went and had my number written on, got my chip, and then stood around freezing for an hour before the race started.
