Pre-race routine:

Woke up. Got everyone who was coming to watch up. Packed up the truck and headed south. Stopped by 7-11 on the way to the race for coffee. Had a gel 20 minutes before race.
Event warmup:

Swam some to get some water into the suit and look for any chaffing points.
Swim
  • 18m 51s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time in tri wetsuit. Have swam in lots of suits for diving and combat swimming. Just was really constricting.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more in the suit. Pool was closed so I couldn't get time in the pool .
Transition 1
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

Was worried about getting my nice new suit all muddy knowing I need to clean it later. Took time to try and get stuff into bag to keep things dry from rain. I should have stayed focused and just pushed it.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot about rain and mud and focused on the least amount of time in T1 as possible. Need to practice T1 and 2 a lot more.
Bike
  • 58m 40s
  • 20 miles
  • 20.45 mile/hr
Comments:

200 yards from the end I wiped out. Lost a good 5 or 6 minutes trying to get my crap together. Feel getting on the bike at the beginning also.
What would you do differently?:

Get used to the computer.
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Put Yanks in the shoes. Had major issues getting shoes on with wet bloody hands and 2 inches of mud. Everything in the transition area was under 4 inches of water. Made life really hard.
What would you do differently?:

Not fall off bike. It slowed me down a lot.
Run
  • 27m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

The pouring rain made the atmosphere fun. Plenty of jokes and what not going around. The fall off the bike got the run off very slowly. Hip, shoulder and general right side all hurt pretty good. By the 3/4 mile to 1 mile mark I was loosened up and moving along.
What would you do differently?:

Not fall off bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit looking for my spectators only to find them hanging in the car trying to stay dry.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being used to the suit and falling off the bike.

Event comments:

Kinetic is one of the best. I plan on being there again next year. The staff was helpful and nice. They tried to make that best of the fact it did nothing but pour the whole race. Many thanks to them for volunteering to be there and put on an event for us even when it is uncomfortable.
