Pre-race routine:

Get up, eat, drive to race, set up transition. Hang out with Team TRIumph team members. Couldn't stop coughing when I was in the car. I thought it was going to be another day like NJ State, coughing and hacking the whole race. Turned out it wasn't, so I was relieved.
Event warmup:

Brief swim warm-up. Felt good despite lack of any serious swimming lately.
Swim
  • 08m 53s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Really good swim for me. I swam almost non-stop only stopping to check sighting and grab a breath. Did well at the start. Didn't panic. Kept me head in it and just went. Lost steam about half-way, probably due to lack of training. Very happy with it though.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Long run to end of transition area. Most people were walking but I jogged through and made decent time getting out. Had problems mounting. Have to work on that.
What would you do differently?:

Get on bike faster.
Bike
  • 34m 1s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Started off good, but really suffered from lack of riding. Not a bad ride considering, but should have been better. Spent a lot of the time thinking what might be different if I were on either one of the bikes I test rode yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Good transition. Long run down to the run exit. I don't understand why it takes some people so long. I don't wear socks but even if I did I don't think it would make me much longer. Some people spend days in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 26m 1s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow. Again, I blame lack of training. Worked on getting HR in control first mile. Need to get in better shape for next season. Want to run faster off the bike. Ran the last mile with Kurt. Tried to keep pace with him and help him push it a little. I was running nice and easy. Could have definitely pushed it harder but I wasn't in the mood considering I haven't been feeling well.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water, gatorade, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This is what fast food and lack of training gets you.

Event comments:

Hope to make this one a Labor Day weekend tradition. Great turn out from the tri club. We had a few award winners.
