Run
Comments: Drove the course the day before and was very intimidated. Tendon behind the knee was not good three days prior but felt good enough on race day to give it a go. After driving the course felt a 10:30 pace would be great. No tendon issues at the beginning just tightness that wore off approximately 30 min in. Didn't look at the watch or mile marker until mile 10. The hills started at 9. Didn't want to walk any of them so attacked the hills and let gravity help on the decent. Felt like I was sprinting on the decents. The last hill during mile 11 was a beast. Had to walk at the 3/4 mark of the hill but made up time on the other side. Mile 12 the tendon started to become tight but the downhill decents seemed to help loosen it up. Fought through the last mile and sprinted the last 1/2...just enough in the tank to cross the finish line. Almost started the sprint too early... :) What would you do differently?: Add a few more hill workouts and tempo runs. Make sure to do a few more long runs. Training consisted of mostly 7 mile long runs with the longest run prior of 10 miles. Post race
Warm down: Walked the tents and took in the atmosphere very well done all around. What limited your ability to perform faster: More tempo runs and a few more hill workouts. Should have run loving hill a few times that was similar to the big hill during the race. Mix a few more long runs in...only had one of ten miles. Event comments: Great experience for my first 1/2. Very challenging race but fair except for that beast of a hill in b/w mile 11 and 12. Should provide a mental breakthrough for the upcoming tri races in 2008. Great weekend all around shared with great friends...highly recommend it. Last updated: 2008-01-17 12:00 AM
