Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:30 (It is great to have a 10 am start). Had some water , orange juice and a granola bar. Had a Snickers Marathon bar at the race site and took a gel 25 minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

Swam out and back from the first buoy.
Swim
  • 16m 22s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

Wave start was bigger than usual. I had a hard time maintain proper form due bumping in to someone every 50 meters or so. I thought that my time would be better with my new wetsuit. Effort felt about right.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my swim over the off-season. It is the only glaring thing that held me back.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Overall 23/336
AG 4/44
It all went fairly good. My rack was really close to the swim exit, so I didn't have much time to strip the top half of the suit off before I got to my bike. But it came off pretty fast and the whole thing went smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Try to work on putting my helmet on and stepping on my suit to remove it, at the same time and hope for a rack further from the swim finish.
Bike
  • 34m 26s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.66 mile/hr
Comments:

It was hard to get started but it wasn't too bad. The orange juice I had earlier did not sit well for the first 3-4 miles. I thought I handled the hills well but could have been better. I felt great for the last half. Passed more than got passed which is always good for motivation. My engine has gotten much better (first time that I have averaged more than 20 or 21 mph).
What would you do differently?:

Try to train on more hills and not drink OJ the morning of.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Overall 15/336
AG 3/44
As close to perfect as I good get.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 20m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Went well. I paced myself well. The guy who got third in my AG passed me and I tried to up the pace to keep up. But It didn't last more than 20 seconds. He ended up running a sub 17 5k. NO WAY I would have been able to stay with him.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe try to go out off T2 harder. But I think I did the best that I could have done.
Post race
Event comments:

Very well organized race. Not very much that I would change other than learning to swim faster.
