Pre-race routine:

Got up at the ass crack of dawn to make the 90 minute drive with Kelly to Annandale. Something to remember for the future is that very few gas stations (and thus gas station bathrooms) are open before 6:00 a.m. Ate my PB sandwitch and drank my coffee on the way.
Event warmup:

Between chatting with all the B.T'ers- Patti and Jeremy, Joe, Emily and Bob, Ben, Kelly not wife and Kelly wife time went by pretty fast. Had just enough time to get a spin in on the bike and then head down for a swim warm-up.
Swim
  • 15m 35s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

This is the first swim where I understood what people were talking about when they say they get beat up swimming. I got kicked, punched, swam over and pummelled. Never had that happen before. Felt like the swim took a long time. Despite being in the top 30% over-all I did not feel like I swam all that well.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I just kind of expected more from myself.
Transition 1
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

Transitions have been slow for me all year. Because of where I was located I'm not actually all that dissapointed with this. In a year with more sprints I would work on transitioning more.
Bike
  • 56m 41s
  • 21 miles
  • 22.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I loved this bike. There is nothing I would change about it. I was worried my legs would be shot after doing a 5 hour ride less than 48 hours before this. They felt awesome. I was passed by 3 or 4 people tops and passed at least 100. Had the pleasure of seeing both Kelly's on the bike-and they looked great. IM training has really paid off. I was able to hit the rolling hills and attack them without losing much speed at all. Was able top maintain 24-26 mph while in the flats.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a fun ride. Maybe eat a little something, but Infinit seemed to do the trick.
Transition 2
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

Same as T1. I'm slow but it's not a priority right now.
Run
  • 44m 46s
  • 5.3 miles
  • 08m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a really good run for me. Despite that it is still the area I lose so much ground in. Had so many people pass me here. I can't believe how fast people are. I always thought if I could hit 8:30's I could hold my own on the run. Still enjoyed myself. Ben passed me coming right out at the start and then Joe passed me at mile 3. Always fun to see B.T. all around good guys on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nada. I had a great run and am happy with it.
Post race
Warm down:

Came into the finish and immiediatly saw Joe. We hung out for awhile and grabbed some food while waiting for others to come in. B.T'ers all filtered in with big smiles on their faces. What a great day. Had a cook-out with everyone mentioned earlier.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper at all. Had an almost 16 hour work-out week before this race. Honestly don't know if that had much of an effect. Just felt really good today.

Event comments:

I would rate this as my favorote race. They do everything so well and it is just such a nice experiance every year. Knocked 12 minutes off last years time. New PR baby!!!!!!
