Swim
Comments: I love the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't have time to get rinse water for my feet before the race, so I used the ice water in my water bottle. That'll get you attention! Worked like a charm though. No sign of sand or debris in my shoes for the ride. Ate a Gu. Bike
Comments: I was just about to fall over from lack of forward momentum when I saw a few other folks get off of their bike and walk up the rest of the hill. I made myself a deal that I could walk, but I had to peddle further up the hill than they did and I had to get back on my bike before they did. That worked out pretty well. I really felt like a loser for having to walk. There were folks who appeared to be in way better shape and on much nicer rides also walking, so that's how I tried to make it ok with me to walk a bit. I ride hills on all of my training rides, and I really thought I could handle this one. What would you do differently?: Train harder! Transition 2
Comments: It feels so nice to get out of the wet bike shoes and into my dry running socks and shoes:) Ate another Gu. Run
Comments: There were more hills than I anticipated. Ran almost all but the uphills. Dixrd from bt introduced himself...I have no clue how he knew it was me, but it was a huge motivation. Thanks for saying HI!!! What would you do differently?: Train more. Post race
Warm down: Had a banana and waited on the awards. There were only 2 athenas, and I came in about 6 minutes before the other, so I ended up the the first place metal. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall fitness. Event comments: This was the first race for these folks, and they did a very good job. If they had a different bike route, it would be supper beginner friendly. Overall, they did a great job and everyone was very friendly. I had fun (except for the mountian climb). Up early to get car loaded and on the road. It was about an hour drive to the race site. Oops. Forgot my towels, so back to the house. Now we are running late. Stop for a quick breakfast for everyone and on the road again. Trying really hard not to panick, but we are going to be late! Didn't get to the race site until 7:10am. Registration/packet pick up was supposed to end at 7, but they let me in. Had about 5 minutes to set up transition. Basically just laid everything out where I could see it. This is not the recommended way to start a triathlon.
No time.
