Swim
Comments: A 1500m continuous swim is still a little on the long side for me, so as usual, I couldn't wait to be done with the swim. Took a few breaks here and there by either side stroking or treading water for a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, other than just keep working on my swimming so I'm faster and out of the water sooner. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from the swim exit to my spot in transition. Stupidly, I ran the whole way with my swim cap on, and didn't take the cap off til I got to the bike. I think I may even have put my bike shoes on before I took my cap off. What was I thinking? Weird. So, that cost me a little bit of time. What would you do differently?: Need to work on transitions and concentrating more. Bike
Comments: I could've pushed harder. What would you do differently?: Mainly, spend more time on the bike, to get faster. But also, I think mentally, I just wasn't in the mood to be racing. That affected how hard I pushed myself in this race. Transition 2
Comments: Transition area was huge, hence the long transition times. However, I think mine were below average. I did have to take some time to move a bike out of my spot. The girl racked next to me put her bike where mine should've been (here wheel was actually sitting on my towel). Annoying. What would you do differently?: I'm not really sure. I feel like I'm moving as fast as I can. Run
Comments: Felt amazing for the first 2 miles. I was running an 8:30 pace and felt like I'd smoke my time from the Philly Oly (9:00 pace). Then I got a side stitch. I ran through it for maybe a half mile, but it got to the point where it was just excrutiating and I knew I'd never be able to run another 4 miles in that kind of pain. Walked for maybe a minute at the next waterstop while I drank some water. Ahhh... This helped a lot. Slowly the stitch went away, but I think mentally I felt out of the game. I was just so pissed off that I had to walk. I ended up beating my Philly run time by a mere 3 seconds, even with the short walk break. What would you do differently?: I'm not sure how I could've avoided that side stitch. I guess my main problem here though was mental. I felt defeated after having to walk. It's not like I completely gave up, but I think it did have an effect on how hard I pushed myself for the remainder of the run. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, stretch a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: Side stitch during the run. Returning from a week-long vacation the day before a race is really not a good idea. Mentally, I just wasn't all there. I never really got excited about this race. Event comments: I thought this was a well run event. The post race food could've been better. I always love the post race food, and this was kind of a disappointment. Also, wasn't a fan of starting over an hour after the first wave. I guess there's not a whole lot that can be done here, with such a big race and all. I think the waves could be bigger, and therefore have less of them, but I understand the safety issues there. Set up transition area then had plenty of time to kill before the start of my wave. There were 10 sprint waves before they even started the olympic waves, so I sat down and enjoyed watching the sprint race get underway.
None.
