Swim
Comments: As we can see by the placement, my swimming still needs work...which I will continue to work on. Liked my overall placement I got in the water...felt like I had my own area to swim, although there were a couple people struggling by me who were distracting me, but I just tried to get around them without interfering with what they were doing...I've been there before, I know how much it sucks when you are just trying to get your wits about you... What would you do differently?: Be more confident in the water...which is only going to come with time. Plus I felt very congested all week, so I think had I not, I would have been stronger here...I did side stroke some of this swim still...which I have to be honest, I am just going to have to "let go" of that stroke...it's like a security blanket to me almost...I really do want to swim more freestyle than side stroke...I just need more confidence...do they sell that in a tri store somewhere?? :) Transition 1
Comments: I said bad above because while Jen zipped me up and the suit felt good and snug, when I do my suit, I usually tuck the strap inside, so when I unlatch the velcro, I just kind of reach in there and pull it out, but I don't know what she did, but apparently, it was already out, so I was reaching for it, but didn't need to be...this cost me some time, since I usually do this right out of the water, rip my cap and goggles off, take off the top 1/2 of the suit, shove the cap and goggles in there while I am running to my bike and at the same time, moving my ponytail down so my helmet can go onand I can just pull the pony tail through the helmet... May sound really confusing, but it works for me, and I've gotten it down pretty quickly, but the cord on the wetsuit really threw me this time. What would you do differently?: Tuck the string of the zipper for the wetsuit myself so it's in the right place. Bike
Comments: Overall, I was pretty happy with my bike. I took in a powergel about 2-3 miles into the course, and I also only had propel in my water bottle this time instead of the fruit punch gatorade. Also, around mile 10, I chewed some tums thinking this might help tame my stomach for the run, but as you'll read, that didnt' help. What would you do differently?: I think going forward, when I feel like I have to blow my nose, that I am just going to ditch the kleenex that I dig out of my bento box...I feel like this really slows me down when I do it...but after the swim, I get that feeling that my nose is running, probably due to my sinuses...just going to go with the old Cross Country method of blowing my nose that Mr. Saylor taught us...snot rockets. Not at all lady like, but during a race, I could care less. Transition 2
Comments: Getting off the bike, I felt short of breath, so therefore, my stomach started to feel like it would cramp....which meant I was in for a long 4.9 mile run. What would you do differently?: Do I slow down in transition, stretch the abs to try to prevent the cramping? See below for further notes on this. Run
Comments: SO after meeting with the chiropractor/physical therapist/massage therapist, we have all come to a conclusion that being down in my aero bars for 40+ minutes, having my stomach all crunched up, and then getting off, and elongating those muscles while standing up straight to run, is doing me no good. What would you do differently?: Take a little more time to stand up tall and stretch while in transition?? Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: One guess...make it a good one!! Event comments: Happy to have been able to finish this race this time...bike was good...will definately be back next year for this race... Last updated: 2008-01-25 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30...Had a banana to eat while at Jen's...pumped up tires...got to park around 5:20...found my spot, which I then moved so it was closer to the swim exit, since my original spot was closer to the bike out, but I would have had to run to it from the swim exit, in the grass, barefoot...
Bathroom, little stretching, deep breathing
