Pre-race routine:

Got to the race about 1 to 1.5 hrs befoer the start. It was cold and the lake was steaming. Talked to Jungle Jenn and Instigater and a few other BT'er and got set in trans.
Event warmup:

Got int he lake and swam a few 100's easy to get acclimated to the 58 degree water. and this time I had my good wet suit.
Swim
  • 30m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was cold but once wet it was not too bad. I did really well with my sighting this year and didn't spend all my time zig-zaging all over the palce. Got hit in the head hard once by some guy (met him later and he was really nice aobut it) made my head ring but I just kept going. He didn mena to do it he was just swimmming hard. Felt good in the water and tried to remember what Coach said about not runshing my stroke and relaxing. Seemed to work
What would you do differently?:

Swim more and remember to kick more...working on it
Transition 1
  • 03m 58s
Comments:

Was alittle slow in trans. my hands were froxen so it was hard to do stuff and I felt a little dizzy from the cold but got it off and walked with the bike until my feet warmed up some
What would you do differently?:

Have a heater installed in the lake...brrr
Bike
  • 1h 51m 26s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 13.35 mile/hr
Comments:

I was really happy with how this bike went what with all the hills I didn't have to walk and with my nutrition. The weater was perfect once I got warm
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Not too exciting just off the bike and on to the run
Run
  • 1h 22m 11s
  • 6.55 miles
  • 12m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

It was a messy run but I felt pretty good about it. I was not very fast and walked some but I did my best
What would you do differently?:

Geesh...I don't really know becaseu the run time for me depended on the course so much
Post race
Warm down:

Not much of th warm down...had to get my stuff in the car and get home so I could eat and rest so I could race again in the afternoon. Coach had me start eating recovery stuff befoer I even left trans. And I think that helped alot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me and rough conditions on the run

Event comments:

Another great race from HFP

Course: 1 loop including the infamous Thompson hill. I didn't have to walk any and that is a big Whoo Hoo!! for me. Felt pretty good and kept reminding myself what Mike and Micheal told me about keeping my cadence up and not mashing gears. It was hard not to slip into that old way of riding but it does seem to have worked out great.

Course: 1 loop of the hilly, rocky and very rutted trail. All the rain wer have had this year did not help this trail. Someplaces I just couldn't even think aobut running, as klutzy as I am I would have broken something. But I ran when I could and walked when I had to. Not my best runs ever but I feel OK about them due to the course
