Pre-race routine:

A local race, so got to sleep in a little. Up and ate my normal breakfast. I had packed everything the night before and didn't have much to do that morning. I kept forgetting like I forgot something.
Event warmup:

Set up my area in about a minute and then talked to people. It was nice to see and talked to the normal BT group. I got to meet two new people, Kimmietri and Trimeggers (sp). I hung around and watch some of the early starters. It was cool to watch Dan blow through 6 people during a turn.
Swim
  • 08m 19s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ok, I'm a dumbbell. Before the race I told someone that they should control their pace the first 100 meters. Yep, I went out hard and struggled through the middle 100 meters. I should have been a minute faster than this. The swim worked better than expected. I had clear wate and swam like crap.
What would you do differently?:

Pace and wear a wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

This went pretty smooth. I was 6th overall in the age group and I passed 3 people on my rack in the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 33m 49s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.29 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the only part of the race that went well. I passed a lot of people and only got passed by 5 or 6, although 3 were in my age group. I felt strong on the bike and only came out of aero for one of the climbs and a couple of turns. I've improved a lot on the bike this spring and finally feel semi-competitive
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Nothing exciting. Missed my rack which caused me to lose a little time.
What would you do differently?:

Find my rack on the first try.
Run
  • 25m 8s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my strenght and I hosed the run. At the beginning of the run was a long downhill and worried too much about running back up the hill. For a sprint, I should be pushing hard from the start. I was over a minute per mile slower than my last sprint. It was a strange course with a lot of ups/downs and I never got in a good rythm.
What would you do differently?:

Run the course before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a bagel and talked to BTers

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I should have worn a wetsuit and learned the course.

Event comments:

I was disappointed in this race. My training has been going well and all my mistakes were mental. I went hard when I should have paced and paced when I should have went hard. It was cool to race with so many people that I know and I had fun. I should race and never look at the results.
