Pre-race routine:

I parked my bike on the opposite side of campus so that i could ride my bike in and get a mini bike warm up. I ate oatmeal and peanut butter toast for breakfast. mmmm. :D
Event warmup:

I did 300 meters in the warm up pool to just ind of get myself going for the swim portion. That's pretty much all i did to warm up today.
Swim
  • 11m 6s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 47s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Now that I look back, I guess I could have gone a little harder. I guess I didn't know what to expect and just treated it like it was another one of my workouts. Because of the fact that I really didn't get tired, I think that I definitely should have gone a little harder and I might have gotten myself an extra 45 seconds to a minute.
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

Well, T1 ended up being really slow and a lot of the people that I passed on the swim ended up transitioning faster and moving out much quicker than me. I was slow due to the fact that I had to sit down and put on my shoes and socks...put all my crap in the bag...and then run with my bike to the course start. I dunno...definitely gotta work on transitions and plan a little better.
What would you do differently?:

definitely plan better and look into getting bike shoes eventually. A transition mat would be nice too. :D
Bike
  • 57m 6s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 14.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow!! crazy course.....I'm looking forward to doing a regular tri where the course is mostly flat...curious to see how I would perform on a course like that. The bike today was fun because I ended up passing a bunch of people who were on thier really expensive bikes and tri team jerseys. I mean, they could have been on their last lap and me on my first ....maybe...but still...still makes you feel pretty good. LOL.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my climbing skills for sure...I did pretty well at it i guess but not as well as i could.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Transition went pretty well...mainly cause I rode me bike in my running shoes so I didn't have to worry about switching out shoes.....took me a sec to find a spot for my bike but not too long. Gave my legs a tiny little stretch and then took off....overall went pretty smooth.
What would you do differently?:

have a gel or something on hand....that would've been nice but I didn't have any pockets to keep one. Maybe look into getting a jersey or a tri suit soon.
Run
  • 24m 35s
  • 2.75 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I think given the shortness of the run, I could've probably gone a little faster than I did. I had never run the course so I really didn't know what to expect or even where I was on the course. I think that if I would've come and run the course...I could have planned better and could have pushed out the last mile or so and shaved a couple of minutes off.
Post race
Warm down:

Just did a nice walk to go and meet Faeron and Yanti and then more walking bac to the expo. Didn't really do too much cool dosn this time...but I didn't really feel like I needed it at the time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ignorance, being my first race

Event comments:

Overall I thought this was a good race...I'd probably do it again. It'll be fun to see my improvement by this time next year. I should be in a lot better shape and I'm hoping to shave a good 20 to 25 minutes off next time.

Performance: Good
the time that they posted for my swim includes my transition time....so i guess they started the time with my wave and then ended it when i crossed the mat to start my bike. So i guess I'd have to subtract at least three minutes to get my actual swim time.
Suit: tri shorts
Course: The swim actually went really fast. I don't know exactly how long it took me cause I don't have a watch to keep track. oh well.... :( It did feel really good to be passing people...that's for sure. The start was hecktic just like I thought it would be but after the first lap, the pack started to thin out and I could actually make a littel progress. The swim didn't really even seem that long to me and I don't even recall ever getting tired which was a great feeling. :D

This time was pretty accurate i guess....this was even faster than any of the times that i had practiced the course...that made me happy. :D
Wind: Little
Course: Course was hilly but fun....it was pretty much with uphill or downhill and not a lot of flat stretches. The ending hills were the only tough part but I had the rest of the lap to pretty much recover from that set of hills. I was definitely feeling it after the first couple of laps...my shifting kind of sucke which made it a little harder than it needed to be but I made it through.

Performance:
Again I think this time is pretty accurate too. This was a fairly decent pace i guess....especially after that freaking bike course....my goal was to just finish it in less than 30 minutes and i definitely did that so..I'm happy.
Course: Pretty much the reverse of the bike course with a couple of sections going through the campus. There were a few kind of long up hill runs that were a little tough but I just kinda kept moving and made it through. The run wasn't bad at all and ended up going pretty quick. It was over before i knew it...which was nice. I tried to just keep a nice steady pace and not go too hard so that I wouldn't kill myself.LOL.
