Run
Comments: i lined up in the 6:45 area. my plan was to keep that pace as long as i could and then push the last mile. the run started fast though and even with some weaving, i ran mile 1 sub 6:30. it felt ok though so i kept that effort and hit mile 2 at 12:49. it was at this point i realized i felt good and with the perfect conditions (downhill, slight tailwind, cool, overcast), i might be able to have a great run. i was able to hold onto that pace for the first 5 miles. mile 6 was hard and i realized that it was not going to be easy. i spent the next 4 miles jumping onto runners as they passed and trying to hold on. sometimes i could keep up and other times i would have to back off and wait for another one. no one was going quite the right pace, but it was nice that there were a lot of fast runners to choose from. mile 9 was hard, but i had a great split and found a pack to run with. i checked my split and realized that i had my pr even if i blew up! i wasn't sure when i would have a chance at conditions like this so i better make it count and push it all the way. i just about collapsed when i hit the line, but i made it finished with my fastest mile of the run! hell yeah. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
Warm down: picked up my bag and walked to cheer on other runners. as i walked i started laughing to myself at one point. i'm sure i looked like a maniac. i got to see k and my sis coming down to the finish! it was my sister's longest run ever and very cool! we walked to the bus and i actually fell asleep curled up on the school bus. on the way home. What limited your ability to perform faster: not sure. i haven't done a ton of speedwork this season yet, but i had a light week so i was able to push it and make up for it. Event comments: this is an awesome race. it helped that we had our own transportation and didn't have to take their shuttle, but it was organized, had a great course, and a fun atmosphere. as with all races, get there early if you need the port-o-jon, but i would definitely do the race again. my sister got a big group of ~25 people from the school where she teaches to do the run. it was great to have so many people and she was able to get us shirts, dinner at the school, and a school bus to drive us race morning. it was excellent.
i had a bagel w/ pb early and then a gu ~1hr before the race.
they had a high school track open for warmups. it was crowded, but i was feeling sluggish and was hoping to break my pr of 1:09, so i wanted to wam up. i ran a few easy laps with a few pickups and felt pretty good. it was self seeding and didn't want to get stuck in the back of the pack so walked back over to the start area to stretch there.
