Run
Comments: Things went very well. I had very little expectations coming into this race. I told myself to stay relaxed and I did well with this. I ran with the 3:30 pace group and talked to several guys along the way which helped. I felt really good until a huge hill from about mile 14.5 - 16. It went on forever. I felt pretty good coming over the top but I really think running down pounded my legs and hurt worse than going up. I was able to get back into a rhythmn and felt OK to just past 20. I took my first walk break at 21, then made it to 23 for a break, another at 24, another at 25, and made it in the last 1.2, hurting, but stayed pretty solid. The last 5 miles was dead into the wind that really hurt. I only took one long walk break - right at 25 there was a big climb with a steep downhill that I started to cramp on. I stopped and stretched for 20 sec or so, and then it was another 150yard `limb that I walked a good bit of, but then I was able to run the rest of hte way in. Overall a very good run. What would you do differently?: nothing. I don't think I could have had a much better race. Post race
Warm down: walked around and ate, and walked back to the hotel What limited your ability to perform faster: wind Event comments: The race itself was great. Decent expo, everything started on time, lots of volunteers, great aid stations with water, powerade at all,gel and fruit at a lot. My biggest gripe was the post-race area. They offered a cup of water or powerade, bananas or oranges, and then handed me a baggie with a couple of cookies and chips in it - that was it. No tables or bottled drinks or anything, here's your baggie, thanks for coming, get out of the post-race area adn you can;t come back in. They did have a separate "perks" tent that you could buy a ticket for for an extra $20. Every other race I've ever done included these perks inthe race price though. Other than the post-race fiasco, everything was good Last updated: 2008-01-30 12:00 AM
