Swim
Comments: I couldn't find my rhythm for the first 400 yds. I was struggling to get enough air. After the first turn I was able to settle in a rhythm that felt pretty good. About half way through the swim, my left calf locked up. It felt like a charlie horse. It took me a couple minutes trying to massage it out and get my foot to point up. I think the lifeguard was getting worried about me. I spent the next few minutes swimming without kicking and keeping my toes pointed at the ground. After that I was able to straighten my toes and just flexed them every few minutes. The rest of the swim went fine. What would you do differently?: A longer warm up would have helped. I really need to figure out the calf thing. I haven't had it happen in the pool, but I'm pushing off the wall and flexing my feet. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: I need to hustle between the swim and the transition area. I walked about half the way up. I wasn't that tired, I just wasn't focused on racing. It took a few steps for the calf to loosen up enough that I could run. Bike
Comments: The first few miles of the race were really congested. There were a lot of sprint racers on the bike course at the same time. It was difficult to pass. My goal for this race was to push it on the bike and get a feel for how much I'd have left on the run. I felt strong on the hills. All in all it wasn't too bad for my third ride on my road bike this year. What would you do differently?: I need to get more bike time. Transition 2
Comments: I used the restroom during this transition so it's longer than it should be. Run
Comments: It was hot and I was tired. I just focused on staying running and only walking at the water stops. The legs felt ok. What would you do differently?: I need to get some longer runs and rides in to increase my endurance. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the family for a few minutes while we watched some more racers come in. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to figure out the calf thing and build up my endurance. All in all not bad for my first Olympic. I was hoping for a little better time. I've got a lot of work to do to get ready for my 1/2 Iron in September. Event comments: This is a fun well organized event. I'll probably do it again next year. Last updated: 2008-01-31 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5 and ate a couple pieces of toast and drank some coffee. Did one last check on my gear and left the house about 6.
Getting the wetsuit on was a little bit of a challenge. I probably swam 50 yards to warm up. I should have got down to the beach earlier so I could warm up and find my rhythm.
