Swim
Comments: This was my first triathlon, and my third time in a wetsuit with open water - I'm just glad I didn't freak out. What would you do differently?: Neoprene swim cap. Every time I tried to freestyle, my head got so cold, I would stop breathing - I ended up doing mostly breaststroke. Transition 1
Comments: I was a bit dazed coming out of the cold water - I'm suprised my fingers still worked! What would you do differently?: I was slow in transition, though it was not up on the website. I never practiced, and I could tell! Bike
Comments: I wasn't ready for a turn, and I totally wiped out - got quite a few scrapes and bruises. I know that definitely affected my performance afterward as I was very cautious, and slowed down quite a bit. What would you do differently?: Really slow down at turns in wet conditions. Transition 2
Comments: Again, I never practiced this, so I was a bit slow. What would you do differently?: practice! Run
Comments: I was slow, but I kept running! I felt a bit achy from my bike wipeout. I also had to really go to the bathroom - that did help me pick up my pace toward the end! What would you do differently?: Practice running more! Post race
Warm down: I walked around, had a PBJ in the food tent; drank the gatorade I should have had on the bike. What limited your ability to perform faster: I should have hydrated more on the bike, but in general, I need to train more to be faster. I also need to practice transitions. Event comments: This was a great race for a first - timer - Lots of support, and being smaller and all women, was not very intimidating. I was really worried about the swim segment, but other than being freakishly cold, it was not bad. I actually feel like I could do this again! Last updated: 2008-02-04 12:00 AM

Got up early; didn't sleep well as I was envisioning crashing waves on Lake Michigan. Ate a plain bagel with apple butter, coffee, water, vitamins...
Walked from the Radisson to the transition area, got set up, figured at this point staying dry was pointless... I did get in the water ahead of time, which was good as I was less shocked at the start!
