Swim
Comments: This is almost two minutes slower than my last year's swim, though that's not surprising given the amount of time I've spent in the pool. I also breathed every 2 strokes last year, but only every 4 this year, so it was an "easier" effort. Took it easy because I was not confident in my swim fitness and didn't want to overextend myself here. Transition 1
Comments: This T1 had a decent run (and they forced us to walk on the boardwalk portion) so is deceptive. It felt like a fast T1 for me. Bike
Comments: Saw a terrible bike crash today. Several riders had already stopped to help. Hope the guy is okay - he was lying face down, motionless, when I went by. Took a well marked curve on a steep descent, complete with several signs warning us to slow down and several volunteers telling us to slow down, too fast and just ate it. What would you do differently?: More TITS and less LBS would make me a much better rider. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I really fell apart on this run, despite saving a abit on the bike and despite having some good running miles so far this year (best of the 3 disciplines). But it was HOT, and I just fall apart running in the heat. Post race
Warm down: They had volunteers hosing us off at the end - it felt great. Event comments: Good enough for 3rd in my division. But not thrilled with my performance. I have no one to blame but me for that (training has been off what it was last year). Here's a comparison of the two races: Swim t1 bike t2 run total 30:09 1:33 1:42:21 1:11 41:34 2:56:46 32:34 1:30 1:30:07 1:08 44:36 2:49:53 Note that this year was MUCH hotter and more humid, whereas last year was nearly ideal. Last year I flatted on the beginning of the bike. Last updated: 2008-02-07 12:00 AM
