Run
Comments: My first 2 miles were at a 10 min mile pace but after that the terrain, mud and heat really slowed me down. I have never run in mud before. I went down 3 times slipping into a mud pool. By the end of the race I was caked with mud from head to toe. Much of the 2nd loop was not runnable; you could only walk and hope to stay vertical. At one point a mud creature sucked my right shoe off my foot. I had to reach into a pool of mud to retrieve my shoe then try to clean out the inside as much as possible and put it back on my foot. I hate shoes. This was the slowest I have ever run by a long margin. Garmin 305 showed 11,540 feet of climbing. Pretty tough to climb when the course is a 13 % grade and it is all mud. Going down was even worse. What great fun. I think I will wear a helmet next year. What would you do differently?: I overdressed and heated up too much after 30 minutes. Next time I wear shorts and possbily run it barefoot. Post race
Warm down: Smiled at the finish line. I lost 5 pounds on this run What limited your ability to perform faster: Mud, mud and muddy pools of mud creatures. Event comments: Cant believe I was that slow. Need to train more in mud. Last updated: 2008-02-08 12:00 AM
