Swim
Comments: Don't know what was up with this swim. Much more physical than normal. Very little contact in the first 300m and then lots of banging all the way up to the last 50m. Got choked up about 1000m it and ended up yakking a little while swimming sidestroke. Head back down and off we go. What's a little vomit between friends? :) What would you do differently?: Um...not swallow lake water. Kick that one guy in the head inside of body checking each other for most of a mile. I'm kidding...sort of Transition 1
Comments: The water level was so low that the race organizers had to push the swim to the far end of the lake to get enough water. This left us with a 2/3 mile run from swim finish to T1. It was bad enough that they set up a pseudo T1 for everyone to leave shoes. Stripped off the wetsuit, threw on some shoes and off we go...over the river and thru the woods...LITERALLY...to the TA. Other than that, it went pretty well. Bike
Comments: Pretty decent bike. I was worried about my hip since its been really sore. I had one or two twinges but no real issues. Actually the best feeling ride I've had in about 2 weeks. Didn't push any harder because I was trying to make sure my hip would tolerate the run. Still pretty happy with my ride overall What would you do differently?: Push even harder. Transition 2
Comments: Ok T2...nothing exciting Run
Comments: Struggled on the uphilll section. Need to spend some time running hills. Did better on the downhill but still not great. 8 mins better than last year but still not happy. I know what I need to focus on. What would you do differently?: Bring roller skates for the downhill section Post race
Warm down: walked around and hung out with the QCTC and some other Charlotte types. Did some QCTC recruiting :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Me Event comments: Like this race, wasn't thrilled about the swim but not the RD's fault. Post race refreshments were pretty crappy this time around. We had bbq last year which hit the spot. Had some sort of veggie wrap and crappy pasta salad this time. I'll eat good between race days. After a race, I want taste. Last updated: 2008-02-10 12:00 AM

Up at 435 which wouldn't have been too bad except my alarm was set for 4am on my cell. Problem is that the cell was set to vibrate! Obviously that didn't work out too well. Frantic drive to get from house to race site (at least an hr and 15 min drive) but I made it in an hr :) I may need new brakes and tires though after 30 miles of Truckers Warning Roads with 9% grades and sharp curves. Had just enough time to throw my stuff down, get my packet and chip, wait in the super long portajohn line and then finally really lay out my TA. I'm used to being the first or second bike on a rack. I was the last one today and got stuck with a cramped middle spot.
Well..if running around wasn't enough, we got to hike 2/3 mile to the swim start.
