Event warmup:

Just swam 100 yds and stretched my arms which were sore from starting a pushup routine.
Swim
  • 07m
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had the flu for a week 2 weeks before the race, but I still had the occasional cough while working out. As soon as I started swimming, I felt congestion in my lungs. I tried coughing underwater and at every wall.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing... swam pretty well considering. I should be doing flip-turns, but I haven't practiced in a while.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Bike
  • 17m 30s
  • 8 miles
  • 27.43 mile/hr
Comments:

The distance was based on RPMs, so it was better to have the resistance as low as you can tolerate and pedal as fast as you can. I HATE pedaling with such high cadence, and it made my glutes ache! Also, I could feel the outside of my foot aching from the position on my feet on the pedals. I was really uncomfortable, but spinned like crazy!
What would you do differently?:

I would prefer to have my cleats, but it I thought it would be a waste of time changing out of them after just 8 miles.
Transition 2
  • 00m 10s
Comments:

Just hopped off the bike and got on the treadmill... no transition at all.
Run
  • 23m 8s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

It felt GREAT to get on the treadmill after the uncomfortable spin bike. I like that these treadmills seem to go a lot faster than my treadmill at home, and the ones at the YMCA. They were good for my ego. I think I was holding back too much at the beginning because I wasn't sure how fast I was really going.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for a minute or two on the treadmill until my heartrate went down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't taper

Event comments:

As good as it gets for an indoor triathlon. The event was well organized and the director even made sure that the 7 of us (friends) raced in back to back heats. There were more than enough volunteers and everyone was friendly. I did the long course last year and although I prefer the longer distance tris, I think I like the sprint for indoors. I remember being kind of bored last year. But then again I wasn't racing with friends. It's a great race to do in the middle of winter when you're itching to do a triathlon.
