Pre-race routine:

My first time getting my daughter ready for a tri on the same day as getting myself ready. Her's was 1 hour before mine, so I was a little rushed in getting both of us ready, then watching her finish, and then getting to the pool to get a few laps in.
Event warmup:

Quick couple of laps, then wait in line. Took 1 Powerbar Gel: Strawberry Banana.
Swim
  • 05m 21s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me. People seeded themselves pretty well. I didn't get passed or pass anyone. The lanes were a little narrow and twice I had to stop because someone coming the other way was passing someone and using the whole lane.
I may have started too fast, but it being only 300 yards it was allright.
What would you do differently?:

Keep getting in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Getting better. No major holdups other than taking the time to put on a long sleeve t-shirt (It was chilly coming out of the water).
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice mounting with new bike.
Bike

  • 20.83 mile/hr
Comments:

First race on new bike. Only got passed once. A guy on a Felt just walked me going up a hill. Can't use the equipment excuse anymore. Got to the turnaround and my training partner was still right behind me. He started right after me in the pool. I tried to pick it up going back in as we both have a competitive spirit and I want to win. I think I did well here and look forward to the flat course next week.
What would you do differently?:

It was a short race so maybe push a little harder going up the hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Another good one, almost looks like I know what I'm doing. Took off the long sleave shirt. Grabbed another gel for the run and a quick drink of water.
What would you do differently?:

Not have to bother with the shirt. Go ahead and eat the gel and wash it down rather than carring it on the run course and trying to eat it with no water.
Run
  • 24m 5s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't think I was running as fast as the time indicates. Where the first mile was marked, I was at 7:15 or less and thought it must have been marked short. I must have missed the second mile marker. Wanted to pick it up towards the end, but the constant uphill/downhill segments really prevented this.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder where it is flat
Post race
Warm down:

Met with family and cheered training partner in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a B/C race for me and I did not taper at all. Had a pretty good training week coming in with a 7.5 mile run the day before.

Event comments:

Really well prepared and organized first race. Course was nice and challenging. Great early season race.
