Run
Transition 1
Bike
Comments: felt good on the bike! I was in wave "S" so I had a lot of people in front of me to catch. my uphills felt surprisingly stong. it was a gorgeous day and I was just happy to be out riding my bike with a race number on my chest. I focused on just keeping a good cadence and efficient pedal strokes. could have gone faster but I know my fitness is busssted right now and I knew my legs wouldn't have much for the run. the bike seemed to go by pretty quickly. I saw dillard fly by, and katie, but didn't really know how to pick out any of the other BTers that had started out before me What would you do differently?: mas training! Transition 2
Comments: haha, would you look at this transition? I wasn't that aggressive... What would you do differently?: move my ass faster! Run
Comments: oh my god! this was so painful! my run fitness is ZILCH right now! immediately out of transition I was thinking "I wish this run was shorter." 4 miles felt like an eternity. I had terrible cramps up the sides of my stomach. but I just tried to pick people in frot of my to pass. I would focus on one person at a time and slowly reel them in. this was working and I was hufifng and puffing (seriosuly hard) along, and really just getting down on myself in my head because a run like this SHOULDN'T HURT SO MUCH, and finally I said "damn it I'm going to walk." I walked! during a race! that is ridiculous! and a woman ran by me and said "good job, keep it up!" and lo and behold she had a BT shirt on! (I would find out later this wonderful woman was skarl, and she is a bad ass series winner!). after that I said, ughhh bridget, get your ass moving. So I had to re-pass quite a few people, including a tall thin gazelle of a girl. I love passing girls that look like they should be faster than me, haha. then, incredibly, I started to feel better. cramps weren't so bad. and suddently the midway point was long gone and I was counting down to "just a mile and a half left... just a mile left.... just half a mile left!" the second half of the run went much better than the first. and there was the beautiful finish line, and I was so glad to be done. ta da, my first CO race complete! painful and ugly, but done! Post race
Warm down: found the BTers to let them know the FRECKLE HAS ARRIVED in CO racing. found out at the racing award ceremony that I have made some friends that are quick as can be! (I already knew that, though). ate some good mexican food too What limited your ability to perform faster: I am overweight and undertrained! but it's a good way to benchmark where I'm at right now so I can watch myself get back to real racing shape. Event comments: it was great to be out during such a beautiful day, back in the racing environment. loved all the peeps I met! next year I will make sure I'm in race shape for these races!
