Overall Rank = 226/259

Age Group Rank = 22/25
Pre-race routine:

I drove 4hrs to get there.......enough said.
Event warmup:

Too bloody cold due to the wind to do anything, I had intended to go for a swim beforehand but one look at that swell turned me off competing, never mind the warm-up. I did however just make sure I had the right gear on my bike as the transition exit was uphill.
Swim
  • 16m 2s
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 36s / 100 meters
Comments:

Breathing was fine, so was stroke, my main problem was navigation.
What would you do differently?:

Not much you can do but I did figure that I would just watch the swimmers beside me instead of trying to find that buoy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The first time I have raced with this suit, it stuck a little on the heels, it probably took me an extra 10 secs to get my suit off, everything else was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting that damn suit off!
Bike
  • 1h 05m 55s
  • 30 kms
  • 27.31 km/hr
Comments:

Who would guess I would run out of water on the second lap, not good.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe take an extra bottle on the bike, normally its not necessary but due to the heat and hills, I drank heaps more. Oh, and really need to do a lot more hill work!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I have this transition nailed, it only ever takes a few seconds.
Run
  • 44m 59s
  • 8 kms
  • 05m 37s  min/km
Comments:

My stomach hurt real bad and my legs were feeling it too. I walked through every water station and made sure to re-hydrate. 2nd lap felt good though.
What would you do differently?:

More hill work and generally just more run training.
Post race
Warm down:

I went straight down to the water and sat there for a good 10 mins letting my body recover in the cold water then drove 4hrs home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Same reason as always - lack of training.

Event comments:

If you ever need a short course challenge this is it. It is TOUGH!

Course: Triangular based course, very choppy, glad I had a westsuit. Very hard to come back in towards shore, current kept dragging you out. Hard to navigate due to the chop, swam way off course 1st lap and not much better 2nd lap. THIS WASN'T 1000M!
