Swim
Comments: I thought I would have some anxiety over the swim but I had NONE. I asked my husband to critique my form (not that he knows anything) and he mainly talked about how crazy other people looked. I felt like I was swimming fast (for me) but it turned out to be the right pace. What would you do differently?: If I'm going to do another pool triathlon I'd like to be doing flip turns by then. Transition 1
Comments: This probably could have gone faster, but this was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. It's a bit disorienting to jump out of a pool and run outside in 42 degree weather and try to find all of your stuff. I think it was OK. What would you do differently?: Practice, I guess. Bike
Comments: I didn't go out very hard on this. Passed a few people early on, but I was only passed a couple of times. Legs and feet were cold. What would you do differently?: As I get more experience I'll have a better idea of how much energy to put into this. I didn't want to crash and burn on the run. Transition 2
Comments: I have regular road shoes with 3 straps so I'm not getting out of them before getting off the bike. I had to run all the way down the transition area and then back up to my spot (not really running). This transition was WAY more chaotic, with other people's stuff everywhere. I had made the decision that I would have very few THINGS in transition to make it easier, and I'm glad I did that. What would you do differently?: Figure out the whole on/off bike thing a little better. Run
Comments: I went out too fast. I did that in bricks too...just used to the cycling cadence and want to take off like a racehorse. The oncoming heart attack kept that in check, so I slowed down. Felt pretty good about my pace. Since people were so spread out at the start, I finished completely by myself (besides volunteers and cheering people). I'm not used to that in a race! What would you do differently?: When I do an Oly remember to SLOW DOWN when I first start running. I'll have farther to go and don't want to kill myself! Post race
Warm down: Walked over to Julie and Ray (volunteering) to chat. I was able to take a shower at the pool, which felt luxurious. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hmm...I'm sure I could lose a few pounds and put in more training hours, but I felt that this was the best I could do given what I'm willing to put into it. I feel pretty good about my first race! Event comments: This was a great race for a first-timer. Well organized, lots of volunteers out on the road. Last updated: 2008-02-18 12:00 AM
