North York County YMCA
Total Time = 1h 00m
Overall Rank = 5/36
Age Group = W30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/15
Pre-race routine:

Drove over to the Y, checked out how the wave start was working and set up my 'transition'
Event warmup:

swam 250 yds
Swim
  • 20m
  • 1150 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were very disparate swim levels both in my wave and in the race overall. I was in lane 4, lane 3 was empty, and the I lapped the swimmer in lane 5 every 150. One guy went 1350, a couple people went 1175, maybe a few more went 1150 like me and it went down from there.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, was a pretty good swim for me at this point in the year
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Time for this was subtracted from the 20 min that you were allowed to bike. Toweled off some, headed out through the locker room to the hall T zone, put on socks and shoes and to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to go without socks and get some speedlaces or similar for my shoes
Bike
  • 18m
  • 5.71 miles
  • 19.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Oh boy. I have a lot of work to do on biking in the next 55 days before St A's and 76 before FL 70.3.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, not take 5 months off the bike and then only do zone 1-2 training before trying to do a hard short effort
Transition 2
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

Stationary bike to treadmill, was part of the 20 min allowed for the run
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 19m 40s
  • 2.18 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't push as hard as I should have/can. Didn't even hit LT HR and ave HR was zone 3. Not exactly what should be done for a 20 min 'race' effort.
What would you do differently?:

Do more biking and bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Never having done this type of race before and being more of a long course specialist, I'm not very good at all out short efforts. I tend to hold too much in reserve. Within minutes of finishing I could have done the whole thing all over again and done better. Yeah, not quite the right effort level.

Event comments:

Would recommend this race. The people that put it on will be doing more races later this year- if interested look at Kennebunk Beach Tri Club.
