Comments: Had a gel about 20min before start, lined up waiting for hooter, when hooter sounded, ran as far as I could into the water before diving. Got into a rythm pretty quickly, at 500m mark put the pedal down a bit and picked up a couple of spots, the swell was getting big over the final 300m,found the flags ok and went hard after last buoy. Waited till hands hit sand, stood up, goggles off and held a high cadence run to transition, picked up a couple more positions. What would you do differently?: Back myself at a quicker pace. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Had a good transiton, sunnys on, helmet on and run and jump onto bike all good. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Bike
Comments: Had a great bike leg, got up to speed and then had a drink to wash salt water down, mmmm. Got average to 36 on first lap and took a gel towards end of 1st lap. Middle 2 laps went hard and got av to 37.5, backed off last 3km of final lap, took a gel in final 1km, overall drank 1 litre (500 gatorade, 500 water). What would you do differently?: Nothing, happy with this leg. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had a good transition, racked bike, helmet off, runners on, hat on and fitted race belt on the move. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Run
Comments: Started stopwatch when I went over timing pads, went out easy with a goal to build my run. Had a cup of water at 1st aid station. Kept a good pace for 1st lap, started 2nd lap and stuck with my plan to go a little harder, built it up to the turn around with 2km to go, a guy in the category below me passed me so I went with him and he faided, passed him and he came back, I could hear footsteps behind me so with a km to go I picked up the pace and at 500 to go (or the brige dip for those who know the race), I gave it everything I had with a final sprint at the end, he didnt catch me which made me feel bullet proof at the time. What would you do differently?: want to do more speed work now that I have a good base. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walk to car to get chairs!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Speed work on run, and more swimming, must swim!! Event comments: Always love this race, because its my home town. I hope to come back for last race in 4 weeks faster on the run and swim, happy with bike leg. Happy racing to all. Last updated: 2008-02-18 12:00 AM

Had my parents stay over, this was great as they would gee me up on race day. Awoke at 5.30am, had 2 slices of toast with half a banana squished on top. Had 500ml of gatorade between now and race start at 8am. I had all my gear packed from night before, so said hooray to the kids and rode down to race at 5.50am, registered and set my gear up and then headed to catchup with Silver Streak and cheer him on in the short course.
walk to start, about 1km.
