Run
Comments: My goal was a 9 min pace but I knew early on that just wasn't going to happen. I felt fine but I was having to work way too hard for my pace and I knew that would cost me later in the run and it did. The last 3 miles I was down to a 10+ pace. My avg HR was 172 so I pushed about as hard as I could. The only real problem came about 5 miles in when I decided I just had to pee. The port-a-potties all had lines so I decided to just jump in the woods. I eyed a spot and bolted into the ditch. Next thing I know I'm standing in water and mud up to my mid calf. NICE!! The next 3-5 miles was fun running in water and mud caked shoes. Well played Einstein! What would you do differently?: For starters, look before you jump into a ditch but even that didn't really affect my pace, it was just an annoyance. Otherwise I just need to keep at the run training. Sooner or later I'll find some speed...hopefully! Post race
Warm down: Met up with my wife, grabbed my sweat bag and wound down for about 15 minutes. Then headed back to the twin cities. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need more work on the run, simply as that. Event comments: This was my first race at this distance and really enjoyed it. Great course, great volunteers, etc. Will try and do it again next year. Last updated: 2008-02-20 12:00 AM

We ended up staying 45 minutes outside Duluth so we had to get up at 3:30 a.m. to get to Duluth on time. Had a half a bagel with some peanut butter, cup of coffee and some water on the drive in.
None really. Just some light stretching.
