Run
Comments: Started out fast like I wanted to. The goal was to beat last year's time of 43:30. I thought I could beat it if I pushed hard but didn't figure I'd be pulling a PR in this race. I was hoping for that in May. Ran with a pack of guys for just under the first mile and then they noticably sped up. A few people didn't hang and we had our own pack through the 3k mark but we strung out shortly after that. Meredith (who I run with thursday nights) passed me at about 4k, I tried to match her pace but couldn't quite do it so I just tried to keep her from slipping too far away. Cruised till the 7K mark, hit that at about 28:15 and the thought came in my mind that I was at 4 miles at a 7:04 pace... too slow to beat last year's 7:00 pace. I realized about a minute later that I was at 4.2 at 7K so I was doing fine. I had already sped up though to make up time so I figured I might as well hold that speed. The race teased us by running us near the finish line at 9K only to hit one last loop around to the finish line. I had a breif moment where I thought maybe I could get under 40 but I quickly realized that would not be today, but I was pretty sure I could set the PR. Finished strong and was amazed at my time. What would you do differently?: I was very pleased with how I ran the race, I have finished races a little mroe tired before though (I wasn't gagging this time), so I may have been able to push a little harder throughout the race. Nothing I will complain about though. I'm pretty proud of the result. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to chat with Jason and Scott who finished a couple minutes ahead of me and the headed for some gatorade and bagels. Finally headed off to cheer in Lisa while I stretched. Event comments: Great race, they were careful about making sure the awards were correct. The crazy event of the day was when they couldn't give the female 5th place winner their cash prize... she was 12 so by high school and college rules she would not be allowed to race as a student after accepting money so they gave her the picture/plaque award and gave the money to 6th place. The other cool aspect of the race is the $20 gift certificate to a local restraunt if you can beat your time from last year. Goes to the top 100 people who better thier time. 75 (+/-) were given the certificate. Last updated: 2008-02-20 12:00 AM

Sip of water and a fruit strip, I don't like to eat much the morning of a 10k. Stuffed myself at On The Border the night before though.
Jogged around the park and checked out the set up. This changed a little from last year. Stretched and went back to the car to shed the jacket and pants. Ran some more to warm-up and headed to the start line. Met up with Jason and finished warming up with him. Showed up at the finishline midway through the national anthem and when it was done snuck into the front of the start line.
