Swim
Comments: Yuck. Started mid-right and it was fine, not much jostling surprisingly. Felt horrible after the 1st 200m or so and tried to figure out a way to quit without losing face but I couldn't think of anything so I kept going. Then I realized I wasn't breathing out underwater for some reason, I once I had that figured out I got into an ok rhythym and hopped on some feet. Took a BIG mouthfull of water on the way in, but as always I was just looking forward very much to getting out of the water. What would you do differently?: More OWS. And be a better swimmer. Transition 1
Comments: Suit got hung up on my heels. Again. And then when I hopped onto my bike I must've hit the pedal because the rubber band snapped and my shoes flopped around so they were upside-down heel first dragging on the ground. Luckily I got it straightend out without crashing into anyone and got going. What would you do differently?: Apparently I need more practice hopping onto the seat. Bike
Comments: Just went out and hammered. HR was way high for almost the entire ride, close to LT although my breathing wasn't LT-hard. Passed a guy with a disc going out of the res who seemed close to my speed. He passed me back out on Niwot Rd. His pace was just a little slower than I wanted so I hung behind him for a little and regrouped my legs and breathing. Once we turned onto 63rd those hills were kicking my butt and my legs were really burning going up them and I found I was having to gear down. But I passed back the disc guy around the 2nd aid station and then didn't see him again. What would you do differently?: Not much, I had a great ride, especially considering how tired my legs were. Transition 2
Comments: Everything was super smoove. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Coaches instructions were to not go too hard on the run so I just went out & settled into a pace. That little hill was hard but by the time I hit the dam I was feeling good & I was happily surprised to see an under 8' pace for the 1st mile. Hit the turnaround & figured I'd try & negative split but I didn't have much extra speed I wasn't already using. Got a decent SS coming back across the dam and my legs awere starting to give out but it went away coming back into civilization & I felt good for the last .1 which is where everyone is so it's obviously the most important part of the course. What would you do differently?: Not much. I couldn't have pushed my legs much harder even if I wanted to. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with all the BT'ers & signed Stacie's board. What limited your ability to perform faster: Most likely the 105 mile bike ride the day before. Event comments: It was fun to get out there and see what I could do with all this IM training behind me. And as always it was fun to hang out with everyone. And Julia took 3rd in her AG - she rocks! The swim kind of hurt my confidence going into Germany but I have to remember I'll be taking it a bit easier there. Not good news since I wasn't very fast here but the whole goal there is just to get out of the water. Last updated: 2008-02-21 12:00 AM

Up early, had some oj, oatmeal & a pop-tart & headed off to the res. I was kind of surprised the sun was already starting to come up. Skipped the huge line that had already formed to get marked and picked out a nice spot in transition at the end of the row. Just milled around & chatted with people.
Not much. A quick ride to make sure my bike was shifting ok and then a real short run. My legs were tired so I decided to save as much energy as I could. Had a gel & a short warm-up in the water to get used to the cold (probably could have been a little longer) and that was it.
