Run
Comments: I was concerned about the big hill at the very beginning of the race. People blasted by me at the start and I was afraid to look back figuring their would be no one back there. I just tried to keep my pace steady as my muscles warmed up and when I got to the hill at about 0.25 miles I started picking a lot of those people off. It felt great to pass people and I just tried to keep my pace steady. On the downhill I tried to pick up the pace and keep my heart rate up, and I think it helped with the overall pace. What would you do differently?: Try to run faster? Post race
Warm down: Didn't believe the clock when I came through the shoot! Thought it must have been wrong. I grabbed a bottle of water, and stretched as my hamstring was beginning to tighten up. Finished off the bottle of water as I walked around, and grabbed a bagel (now my appetite comes back). What limited your ability to perform faster: Nerves. I need to learn to deal with the nerves. I think the cure for that will be just doing more races. Event comments: This race has been put on for years to support the Matheny school (for kids with disabilities) and the major sponsors really do it right. Last updated: 2008-02-21 12:00 AM

Race wasn't until 11 am. Had a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee, and about the time I finished that at 8:30 am the nerves had set in...maybe I should have had a valium instead!
I get so nervous!
Got to the event and checked in. Stretched and hit the port-a-potty, darn nerves. Ran a little jog around the park.
