Pre-race routine:

up at 7ish. had some sturdiwheat cereal w/ milk and honey. got some coffee from across the street. horrible night of sleep last night since fiona was up a LOT. thought seriously about DNS i was so tired, but i was looking forward to cheering for the other Bters, and ella was excited to run in the kids race.
Event warmup:

got registered. went to the bathroom and rubbed my legs down with that ozone leg warming oil stuff (it burns, but it really seems to help my legs get warmed up on a cold day). did hardly any stretching, which may explain why my achilies tendon was hurting by the end of the race. did a clif shot about 15 mins before the race start

Comments:

it was great starting out the race surrounded by BT'ers...and i also ran into another friend, michelle, who was doing her first 10k (she was on of the moms i tried to get to tri this year). jay and i crossed the finish line within a couple seconds of each other, and were greeted by his family, my family, and speedy ian. it was great to cheer for kris and michelle as they finished.

thinking ahead to this race, i had a goal of finishing around 55 mins. last year i did the same race in 1:02, and my 10k pr is (well, WAS) 56:17. despite being tired, pms'ing, and training that has been way off track,i was still able to meet my goal. it was a harder run for me than last year, since i was pushing harder. only drank at 2/3 water stations and that felt just right.
What would you do differently?:

stretch more all the time. be better about sticking to my training after the tris are all over. sleep the night before.
Post race
Warm down:

immediately plopped down in the grass to nurse fiona. did a little stretching (not enough) and visited with steven, ian, and kris. did the kids race with ella. she wanted to run on her own, but i chased after her to get pictures and cheer for her...but she was too fast for me! i didn't catch up to her until after she finished! after that, the girls were more than ready to go home, so we headed out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

stretch more all the time. be better about sticking to my training after the tris are all over. sleep the night before.

Event comments:

i love this race. even though it was cold this morning, it was still a beautiful day to be in this beautiful park!

okay, and the fact that its the AUTUMN woods classic doesn't hurt either!

Performance: Good
i said i wasn't going to take any splits, but what can i say? i'm weak!!! i couldn't help myself!!!! 2 miles: 17:11 (8.59); 4 miles: 18:12 (9.1); 6 miles: 19:02 (9.52); 6.2 miles KICK!!! 1:28 (7.33) should have gone out slower and built the speed, instead of slowing down. live and learn. will go out MUCH slower for the 1/2 marathon.
Course: mostly on paved roads and bike path, which a few bits on gravel/dirt trail. they even had someone stationed ahead of a couple of dinky little mud puddles , warning people to watch out for them. its a TRAIL run! we should be a little muddy by the end! gently rolling hills, no major climbs.
