Swim
Comments: This was so much fun. I started off being nervous looking at all the people that would be going off at the same time. So I decided, hey, this is my first one, lets just start on the outside and swim around them, and it worked. I swam 10-20 extra yards out in the ocean and had clear sailing the whole way. The bad part I was really the third person out of the water (I passed the elites with their headstart) but since the transition area was 1/2 mile away, along with the timer, mr. and mrs. inshape people already started the passing frenzy about to transpire. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Ride the waves better going into shore. Transition 1
Comments: Both transition times were included on the swim and bike so I have no idea about time. But they felt nice and more importantly I did not forget anything. Bike
Comments: Sadly, this was a quick pace for me on the bike, so I really should not complain...but. It was not much fun when every single person passed me on the bike, cool at first, but it got old. Still a ton of fun. This really was the course I ride on all the time, only a couple miles from my house. Beautiful views all around, and I will say I did not mind being passed by a few of the girls out there, good stuff What would you do differently?: Bike more, so much more. I really cannot compete with these guys. I know this is my first year training, I just got my hopes up too high after the swim performance. Transition 2
Comments: Coming out of the transition area one of the refs yelled over here so I turned around and ran to him only to find out he wasnt talking to me, all while other people are yelling at me to turn back around. And yes, it was caught on tape. Run
Comments: Gatorade bad. I knew I was going to do poorly on the run, I mean hey, I'm still 20 lbs or so overweight. But I have never trained with gatorade and decided I was going to need the calories, and...bad idea. Cramps from hell for the first mile, after that, wonderful. The time was faster than I would have thought and I finally got to pass someone. Plus every time I looked around and saw water it made me smile. Not to mention thinking about what I am now doing with my life, I could not have been happier. What would you do differently?: Be less fat, quit smoking much earlier in life. Post race
Warm down: Wondered around, met some cool people, and recieved a coffee cup for being the third big fella to finish. Also, looked through the 1000 pictures my girlfriend took, which was so cool. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hey, I'm new. Event comments: I hate to say the same thing as everyone else, but...I'm hooked and I cannot wait til the next one. Jumped in the water so I would not be freaked out by the cold when the race started.
