Swim
Comments: Did a terrible job sighting, but my overall swim was pretty smooth. As this is my stong suit, I usually try to go out a little harder. I was just trying to keep a steady rhythm and save energy for the bike (it worked!). Before the gun, I was hanging out with BHannahs in the water - - don't know where Jen, Josh and Sallt were. What would you do differently?: Sight better. I need some OWS practice Transition 1
Comments: Got to the mount line and headed up. I saw Sally in transition and knew it just be a matter of time before she passed me. What would you do differently?: Get out of my suit a little quicker. I also had to find a volunteer and advise them about my gear -- I had forgotten to bring a bag to T1. Bike
Comments: This was a tough start. Barely going 9mph - finally you get to the top and you speed down at 38mph! The rest of the course was rolling this way until King Kong. I held off Sally for about 40 minutes and then we rode together for another 40. She dusted me on a hill, I dropped my bike computer - but I made it. Not my best race pace, but probably the best I've done. This is the first time that I have a better OA rank on the bike than on the run! What would you do differently?: Practice some big hills Transition 2
Comments: They take your bike and rack it -- cool! Actually, it should have been cool. "we've got your bike, we've got your bike" and I actually see a guy's hands on it. I let go and CRASH! My bike is sideways on the ground. No worry, I'm off to get my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Nada Run
Comments: Up the mountain immediately out of T2 on a single path switchbacks. Started to run, but that faded quickly. Looked ahead, most everyone is walking - - or climbing. This was tough. Up one mountain and down, up another and down, then on to the riverbottom of sand and gravel. Tough to run in, but more manageable than the mountains. I did fall down a ravine letting someone pass. Jut a few cuts and scrapes and I was off. Back to riverbottom - - sand/gravel gave way to river rocks. Soon, I could hear the PA and music and I knew the finish line must be close. What would you do differently?: Climb Everest for practice. OK, some maybe just do some trail runs and some climbing. Giving myself an "average" on the run due to the difficulty in the course. Post race
Warm down: Saw Sally and then waited to see Josh, Jen, and Brian finish. Grabbed some more liquids and a slice of Pizza. Saw everyone finish and left to go pick up my kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat was tough, but this course was tougher. I think it'll make Tempe Int'l seem boring. Event comments: I think they could've been a little more organized and probably should've had an aid station on the bike course. The course was very challenging and had beautiful scenery. I first thought that I wouldn't do this again, but now that I've had time to think, I really liked this race and would most likely do it again. Last updated: 2008-02-25 12:00 AM

Waited around at saguaro ranch resort to pick up my race packet (for about an hour) until we found that we needed to go to Water User's Parking for that.
Some stretching just to loosen up, but the swim pretty much gets me ready for everything else.
