Pre-race routine:

Tried to stay out of the rain. Got into the water early to acclimate to the cold.
Event warmup:

Swam about 100 yards and water was warmer than expected. "Warmed" my suit upon entering water and tried to chill my face so I could tolerate the temp.

Comments:

Caught up to the group in front of me (non-elite women) around the first buoy and had rough time navigating through the back of that pack. Drafted for the first time up to that point -- follow the bubbles right? Kept a very average pace and didn't get passed by many of my age groupers and did not pass many either.
What would you do differently?:

Work on basic speed and efficiency technique in training.

Comments:

Heavy rain made this very interesting. Suit stuck and all bike gear was in plasic bags but still pretty wet. Fumbled through my junk and found socks that stuck, went with gloves for grip and chill. Ran through slippery mud to bike route.
What would you do differently?:

Had to improvise with the rain and all thoughts of a speedy T1 were thrown out.

Comments:

Tried to push pace since this is my worst segment. Passed as many people as passed my which was a big switch! Stayed aero for almost the whole race and felt fine minus some back stiffness near the end. Got up for the hills and did not lose much time there. Felt good even with the rain.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a bit more during the ride. Like the run, because of the rain all plans were improvised and the pace was slower of course.

Comments:

More mud and puddles than in T1! Went to wrong rack -- again -- and dropped bike trying to unrack. Decided to change socks and had a slow time. With the pouring rain, the mud and the puddles the whole transition area was a disaster. Happy to make it out alive...
What would you do differently?:

Better organize my stuff -- bring a small bin for the rain!

Slooooow start. Thoughts of not finishing crossed my mind during the first mile. Passed water station at start and should have taken something. Grabbed some at turn and helped. Was in a good pack of people running my pace. Passed by a few people from waves behind me, but overall did ok.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Go faster.

None really. Stopped and got a water and a wrap to get warm. Still raining. Brrrrrrr.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain and training.

Event comments:

But for the rain, it would have been awesome.
