Pre-race routine:

Picked up packet and got transition set up. This is getting easier as I do more races. I know better what I need and what I don't. Wandered down to the water to put on my wetsuit and put my feet in.

Tried to eat but wasn't feeling well, so only had half a granola bar and half a clif bar. Was worried that my lack of nutrition may come back to haunt me later on.
Swim
  • 11m 45s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was okay. Still haven't had much time in the pool, so that hurt me. Had a hard time breathing partway thru so loosened up the wetsuit. I need to get better about keeping my head in the water more. I sight and break into breast stroke too often which totally slows me down and breaks my momentum. When I was able to get into a good rhythm, I felt like I was moving along pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Train more! learn to sight better!
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

Was okay. Re-ponytailed my hair because my helmet wouldn't go on, so that was some time wasted. Still want to learn to clip the shoes in before mounting.
What would you do differently?:

Some sort of hair solution worked out before the race...
Bike
  • 52m 49s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt alright. My HR was really high on the bike at the beginning and it took me a while to calm down because of the headwind. I was so proud that I was out on the bike before the first bike guys were coming in. That's a first for me in a sprint. Really feel confident bombing down the hills now after Galena.
What would you do differently?:

Train more! Have another extra bottle of water that doesn't leak and empty out...
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Apparently I was super slow here. I didn't feel like it, but I was 19/21 in my age group. What gives? I need to learn to take my feet out of the shoes and pedal on top of them to save time.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the shoe thing.
Run
  • 29m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

hard time at the beginning. ended up walking a bit in the first mile before settling into a good pace. felt strong at the end
What would you do differently?:

run more!
Post race
Warm down:

walk, wipe dirt off face, stretch a bit, chiro guys.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training (again and of course!)

Event comments:

Great small race. Eric Sarno does a fantastic job with this. A lot of fun, great swag and great course.
