Total Time = 3h 12m 57s
Overall Rank = 567/730
Age Group = F30-34
Age Group Rank = 222/322
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal and sugar free applesauce, splash of coffee, water. Felt flustered/disorganized, esp. when we arrived at 5:50 a.m. and the parking lots were all full. Had to walk a mile up the park. Transition was easy setup.
Event warmup:

Didn't warm up, not sure why. I was too ancy and nervous about my tendonitis, perhaps. At 7:00, I donned the wetsuit and headed to the beach with the girls. Race delay dictated a 1.5 hr. wait!! Fog was heavy and not lifting (warm air, cold pond). The pond was only 60, so they were nervous about sending folks into the abyss when we couldn't see buoys w/ the water so cold. You couldn't even see the fireboats' headlights! Finally, then announced an abbreviated swim. I splashed around a little right before my wave.
Swim
  • 19m 57s
  • 1200 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Cannot compare to last year's times b/c they abbeviated the swim (fog). Swam to the 2nd buoy (rectangle swim). Was all over the place, didn't draft well. Using distance est. from more consistent swimmers on my team. Water didn't seem cold once we were going. The fog lifted before the swim was over!
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder - what was deal today? I haven't had enough swim practice, that's what. Plus, with the long race delay, my adrenaline wasn't going, so I was too relaxed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
What would you do differently?:

Use the wetsuit strippers, finally get shoes that fit and that have one or two velcro straps for racing.
Bike
  • 1h 44m 22s
  • 27.34 miles
  • 15.72 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Train more. I don't know...stairmaster? What is going to give me the stamina that I see these women have? I KNOW that I'm stronger than them...what is holding me back? The bike? My poor endurance? I think rider moreso than equipment. I was disappointed to basically get the same time as the two previous years. (I don't count the two minute delay I experienced turning left onto West Shore Rd. w/ bumper to bumper traffic...crazy! Cars weren't sure to let us pass on the right or the left, and police were totally unhelpful.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
What would you do differently?:

Remember to press the lap button on my watch...my records didn't show a transition! Oops!
Run
  • 1h 05m 17s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Hot, humid, uncomfortable. Nothing more to say, really. I was popping Endurolytes which kicked in for the 2nd half of the run. Felt slow and miserable. Did a little less walking than last year. Overcast made for a slightly better run than last year, but nothing to write home about.
What would you do differently?:

Train. Train. Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, orange slices and water, cheering with my teammates. Swim in the icy pond afterwards...which totally made my legs and angle feel GREAT! Changed out of my wet uniform into nice dry clothes. Group photo for club championship. Lunch was FABULOUS: cheeseburger, potato, pasta and egg salads, drinks, chips and ice cream -- all free for athletes!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training (late start) b/c of slacking, but also b/c my husband has been so ill this Spring. Lack of direction with training, if not motivation. Too much too soon, but not enough overall, you know what I mean. Feeling kind of down, as I always do after this race, b/c I want to be one of the fast girls!!

Event comments:

The events on time rating is strictly b/c of the weather. I love this race - it is a fun and challenging course with wonderful volunteers, music, and food. Great commeraderie.
